Ministry Development Scheme – Cornerstone Church

Organisation

1. Purpose

We are looking to recruit people for our Ministry Development Scheme to help us fulfil our mission of making disciples of Jesus Christ in Nottingham, all nations and the next generation.

The Ministry Development Scheme seeks to train men and women for a variety of senior staff roles within the local church in the UK or overseas. Those on the scheme will become part of the staff team at Cornerstone and will be given significant ministry responsibilities
throughout their time in the role. For suitably qualified men, the scheme would be the equivalent of a Minster-in-Training post.

2. Responsibilities include:

  • Developing teaching gifts in various contexts
  • Developing leadership responsibilities
  • Developing pastoral responsibilities
  • Responsibilities within ministries in the church
  • Training on the Crosslands Seminary Course
  • Being part of the staff team of Cornerstone Church in a trainee capacity
  • Developing evangelism and missional gifts

The specific ministry areas covered will be decided based on the candidate’s gifts and prior experience, to be discussed and decided following a provisional offer of a place on the scheme.

3. The following qualities and characteristics are essential for this role:

  • Have the necessary character and developing gifting to be in Church ministry and leadership in the future
  • Support from current church leaders to pursue ministry training
  • Have had some previous experience of teaching the Bible
  • Have had some previous experience of leading
  • Agreement with the Cornerstone Church Confession of Faith
  • Agreement with the FIEC Ethos Statement regarding Same-Sex Marriage
  • Be passionate about Cornerstone’s mission and values
  • Good interpersonal skills including the ability to communicate in a pastorally sensitive way
  • Need to become a member of Cornerstone (if not already) and be actively involved in the life of the church
  • A teachable spirit and caring heart
  • Ability to work within a team and be willing to learn from others.

The following qualities and characteristics are desirable for this role:

  • Experience of the needs of a diverse group of individuals, including those of different nationalities
  • Working with a church for a period of time, such as an Internship
  • Completed training such as Regional Gospel Partnership training course.

4. Job details

Hours of duty: 40 hours per week, including Sundays. Some evening and weekend work will be required in addition to normal church attendance.

Place of Work: The Cornerstone Church Office.

Holiday entitlement: 25 days per year plus statutory bank and public holidays.

Salary: The salary scale for this role begins at £28,359.

Pension: You are entitled to employer’s pension contributions based on 5% of qualifying salary and you will be informed of Cornerstone’s
auto-enrolment pension arrangements.

Length of contract: This is a full-time, 3-year appointment, the first six months of which will be a probationary period.

Start date: To be agreed.

Responsible to: A Minister and/or Director of Ministry.

5. Behaviour

All staff are expected to maintain high standards of care for people they engage with in the course of their work, to uphold health and safety standards and to participate in training activities necessary to their post.

This is not a complete statement of all the duties and responsibilities of this post. The postholder may be required to carry out other duties as directed by church leadership. The responsibility level of any other duties should not exceed those outlined above.

7. Recruitment requirements

A satisfactory Disclosure Barring Service check will be required for the postholder prior to commencing these duties.

The nature and/or context of this role means that that there is an Occupational Requirement for the successful applicant to be a Christian in full agreement with the Confession of Faith of Cornerstone Church.
