The role is responsible for ensuring journeys are delivered to a high standard of safety, professionalism, and care, contributing to a positive experience for young people and supporting their engagement in youth work provision. This role will likely require the postholder Monday-Friday between the hours 2:30pm-9pm.

Transport Delivery

- Safely drive The Way’s minibus to transport young people to and from sessions, trips, and events.

- Ensure all journeys are planned and delivered in a timely and efficient manner.

- Maintain a safe, clean, and roadworthy vehicle at all times.

Safety and Compliance

- Carry out pre-journey checks and basic vehicle inspections, reporting any faults or concerns promptly.

- Ensure compliance with all road traffic regulations, licensing requirements, and organisational procedures.

- Follow all safeguarding, health and safety, and risk assessment requirements during transport.

Safeguarding and Young People’s Experience

- Maintain a safe, calm, and respectful environment for young people during all journeys.

- Support appropriate supervision of young people when boarding, travelling, and disembarking.

- Act as a positive role model, contributing to a welcoming and inclusive culture.

Recording and Administration

- Accurately complete vehicle logs, mileage records, and any required documentation.

- Report incidents, accidents, or concerns in line with organisational procedures.

Teamwork and Communication

- Work collaboratively with youth work staff to support the safe and effective delivery of sessions and trips.

- Communicate clearly with the Senior Youth Worker regarding schedules, issues, or concerns.

- Be flexible to support the wider needs of the service where appropriate.

Full, clean UK driving licence with D1 category (held for a minimum of 3 years).

Meets insurance requirements (minimum age 25 and licence held for 3 years).

Strong commitment to safety, safeguarding, and responsible driving practice.

Reliable, punctual, and well organised.

Ability to communicate effectively with young people and staff.

Calm and professional approach, including in unexpected or challenging situations.

Enhanced DBS check (or willingness to obtain one).

Experience of working in a youth, education, or community setting.

Understanding of safeguarding principles and working with young people.

Basic vehicle maintenance awareness.

Consistently prioritises safety, demonstrating strong awareness of risk and compliance requirements.

Delivers transport consistently, on time, and in line with agreed schedules.

Communicates clearly and appropriately with young people, staff, and partners.

Maintains composure and professionalism in unexpected or challenging situations.

Demonstrates appropriate behaviour, maintaining clear boundaries with young people.

Works effectively with youth work staff to support the smooth running of sessions and trips.
