Metaproteomics/Proteomics Mass Spectrometrist

Applications Close: 07 June 2026

Salary: £37,500 to £45,350 per annum depending on qualifications and experience for the SC6 level post, and £45,450 to £56,750 per annum for candidates who meet the SC5 level criteria

Contract Length: This is a full-time permanent position

We’re looking for a highly motivated and passionate Metaproteomics / Proteomics LC–MS Specialist to support our growing Meta-Omics capability. This is an exciting opportunity to work at the forefront of microbiome, health and nutrition research, developing the Quadram Institute Meta-Omics Platform (Q-MOP).

Quadram Institute’s research is highly multidisciplinary, bringing together expertise in food science, microbiology, bioinformatics, clinical research and advanced analytics within a state-of-the-art research environment on the Norwich Research Park. Recent advances in microbiome science increasingly require a transition from identifying which microbes are present towards understanding their biological activity and functional impact on host health. To remain internationally competitive, Quadram Institute must adopt advanced LC–MS technologies capable of rapid, reproducible and ultra-sensitive data-independent acquisition (DIA) across large and complex sample cohorts.

Quadram Institute has recently procured a next-generation LC–MS system, the Orbitrap Astral Zoom, capable of delivering high-throughput, high-sensitivity metaproteomics and untargeted metabolomics. The system will form a core component of the Quadram Meta-Omics Platform (Q-MOP), supporting internal research programmes as well as providing national capability for academic, clinical, and industry users.

The role

You will play a key role in delivering high-throughput, high-sensitivity metaproteomics and proteomics using next-generation LC–MS/MS technologies. Working with advanced instrumentation, you will develop and apply analytical workflows for complex biological samples, contributing to cutting-edge research in functional microbiomics, precision nutrition, and clinical translation.

This post is available at an SC6 level, however candidates with demonstrable knowledge and experience of the requirements indicated at an SC5 level will also be considered.

The ideal candidate

We are looking for someone with hands-on experience in LC–MS/MS, a strong understanding of mass spectrometry and data analysis, and a commitment to scientific integrity, reproducibility, and high-quality data generation. You will collaborate closely with multidisciplinary teams across Quadram Institute and the Norwich Research Park, supporting experimental design, data interpretation, and training of researchers.

This role offers the opportunity to contribute to a step-change in national capability in meta-omics and to be part of a collaborative and innovative research environment.

Essential requirements include:

  • PhD (or equivalent experience) in a relevant discipline
  • Experience with LC–MS/MS instrumentation and proteomics workflows
  • Strong data analysis and interpretation skills

If you are passionate about advancing proteomics and metaproteomics in a world-leading research environment, we would love to hear from you.
