About us

The Institute of Materials, Minerals & Mining (IOM3) is a professional membership organisation and registered charity, governed by a Royal Charter. With more than 150 years of history, we bring together a diverse global community working across the materials, minerals and mining sectors.

We connect disciplines through 22 Technical Communities and support clear pathways to professional registration, including chartership. Our members benefit from expert-led content, mentoring and a collaborative professional network. As a leading voice for sustainability and circularity across the materials cycle, we support our community to make a lasting impact, within their field and beyond. IOM3 is a professional home for materials, minerals and mining.

Role: Membership Development Manager (MDM)

Supporting the development of members, from recruitment to registration and development of the membership pipeline. A particular focus in the role is interaction with our student and early career group and the development of mentoring and workshop support along with interaction with Employers and Universities.

Reporting to: Head of Membership Development

We work with scientists, engineers and sustainability professionals and from our offices in London and Grantham offer training and development, accreditation, including professional registration with the Science and Engineering Councils and the Society for the Environment, and the opportunity to be a part of an active support community of our members.

The MDM focuses on the development of our current and future membership pipeline. The MDM reports directly to the Head of Membership Development working closely with the wider Membership Team. With a variety of routes to membership, the option of professional registration and progressive qualification and the diverse disciplines that exist in materials science and engineering, every candidate and their route to membership is unique.

With good organisational skills and a service approach you will enjoy working with a wide variety of people, be open to new ideas and must be comfortable with both talking to large groups and dealing with individuals.

Don’t meet every requirement? Studies have shown that women, people of colour and those who are disabled (physical, invisible or neurodivergent conditions) are less likely to apply to jobs unless they meet every single qualification. IOM3 is a forward-looking, diverse and inclusive Institute, so if you’re excited about this role but your experience doesn’t align perfectly with every qualification in the role description, we encourage you to apply anyway. You may just be the right candidate for this or other roles. Should you need reasonable adjustments, please do not hesitate to contact us to make suitable arrangements.
