Medical Centre Care Assistant

Closing date: 30th April 2026

Join Our Team as a Care Assistant at the Royal Hospital Chelsea.

Medical Centre Healthcare Assistant

We are seeking an experienced Healthcare Assistant to join our small and friendly team in providing GP services to the Chelsea Pensioners, who are all elderly veterans of the British army. As a key member of our clinical staff, you will contribute to the safe, effective, and compassionate delivery of NHS Primary Care services to our patients, and you will work closely with our dedicated clinical and administrative team to ensure high‑quality care remains central to everything we do.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conducting health checks and elderly care-planning consultations, including weight, BMI, blood pressure, urine testing and other routine observations.
  • Wound care, with a commitment to develop skills in complex wound management under the supervision of the Practice Nurse if not already suitably experienced.
  • Phlebotomy.
  • ECG recording.
  • Providing support to the reception desk when required.
  • Additional duties will be discussed with shortlisted candidates at interview.

Essential Requirements:

  • A recognised Care Assistant and phlebotomy qualification.
  • Previous experience working as a Healthcare Assistant within NHS primary care.
  • Familiarity and efficiency with GP medical software systems, e.g. SYSTM1 or EMIS.
  • Patience, empathy and a “whole team” approach.

Please Note:

  • We are unable to consider applicants whose experience is solely within social care or nursing home settings and a formal phlebotomy qualification and relevant primary care HCA experience are both mandatory for this role.
  • We are especially seeking applicants who are committed to delivering high quality care with compassion, and who value working in a small team environment, with the flexibility such work requires.
  • Due to the nature of our setting, this position will particularly suit those who value a small‑team approach and continuity of care for an elderly patient group.

Working Hours:

  • Shifts will be either 8:00–16:30 or 9:30–18:00, with some variation as needed.
  • If you’re an enthusiastic HCA with the right experience and a passion for delivering excellent patient-centred care, we would love to hear from you.
