For over forty years, it has stood with poets to nurture, grow and champion performance poetry for everyone, delivering fearless, high-quality and innovative programmes with the power to change lives. It nurtures artists, builds young people’s confidence and oracy, supports a national community, and brings the best in performance poetry to wider audiences. Apples and Snakes foregrounds Black British poets and creates platforms, connections and opportunities for poets to be seen. From first-time performers to established names, it helps poets grow their craft, find their voice and make a living doing what they love. Working regionally and nationally it brings performance poetry to schools, libraries, festivals, playgrounds and even station platforms, working with over 4,000 children and young people across England each year, and with organisations including Young Identity, Gobs Collective, UniSlam, Southbank Centre, Roundhouse and the BBC. Apples and Snakes is a registered charity and an Arts Council England National Portfolio Organisation applesandsnakes.org | @applesandsnakes Role overview We are seeking an experienced, part-time, Marketing and Communications Coordinator to support the planning and delivery of high-quality, inclusive marketing campaigns for our live events, learning activities, and digital projects, working closely with artists and partners. This role plays a key part in audience development, ensuring our work reaches diverse communities, aligns with Arts Council England priorities and upholds our commitment to equality, diversity, and access within the arts and cultural sector. The successful candidate will be a marketing professional with at least three years’ experience with strong digital marketing skills, creative flair, a collaborative approach and an understanding of marketing within the arts, cultural, or third-sector context. Marketing and Communications Coordinator (Part-Time) Contract terms: 12 months fixed-term contract. Part-time (2.5 days p/w Mon - Thurs. Ideally able to work Tuesdays (team day) e.g. Mon, Tues, Weds - half day, or Tues, Weds, Thurs - half day, with twice monthly in-person meetings at our London office) Reports to: Digital and Marketing Manager Salary: £32k FTE Location: Hybrid / UK-based - commutable to London. Experience Required: Minimum 3 years’ relevant marketing experience The Role Key Responsibilities ● Plan and deliver targeted marketing campaigns for performances, learning programmes, and digital projects ● Create engaging, accessible content for social media, newsletters, and web platforms ● Maintain a consistent and inclusive organisational brand voice ● Work closely with programme teams, artists, and partners to promote projects effectively ● Support audience development strategies, particularly for children and young people and underrepresented communities ● Monitor, evaluate, and report on marketing activity using audience data and analytics ● Manage mailing lists, CRM systems, and routine website updates ● Ensure all marketing materials meet accessibility standards and reflect equality, diversity, and inclusion principles ● Research, connect and build relationships with community and partner organisations ● Manage and maintain a reciprocals lists for social media, newsletter and other coordinated work Person Specification Essential Criteria: ● Minimum of 3 years’ professional experience in a marketing role ● Proven experience delivering digital marketing campaigns ● Strong copywriting and creative content skills ● Experience managing social media platforms and email marketing systems ● Ability to analyse marketing data and report on impact ● Excellent organisational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities ● Demonstrable commitment to equality, diversity, and inclusion ● Experience working within the arts, cultural, education, or charity sectors ● Experience marketing live events, online events, or participatory arts programmes ● Basic design skills (e.g. Canva or Adobe Creative Suite) and social media scheduling tools ● Basic knowledge of video editing and social media sizing to produce engaging content on Instagram Shorts, Reels and organic posts, YouTube, YouTube Shorts, Tiktok and LinkedIn ● Knowledge of the arts sector and the types of audiences and language involved ● An interest in connecting and engaging audiences through the digital medium with the confidence to tell compelling stories Access and Inclusion Apples and Snakes is committed to being an inclusive organisation.
