About the service
Our Pollok Housing Support Service offers an engaging and dynamic work environment where no two days are the same. We’re a dedicated, close-knit team committed to providing exceptional, person-centred support to two men in their 50s who are primarily deafblind and have complex and diverse support needs. They may not communicate verbally, so we place a strong emphasis on understanding and connecting in ways that are meaningful to them.
At Pollok, we focus on empowering the individuals we support to lead fulfilling, independent lives—tailoring our approach to reflect their personalities, preferences, and routines. Value-based communication is at the heart of what we do, ensuring our support is meaningful, respectful, and truly person-centred. We’re currently looking for a *Male Support Worker to join our team and help make a lasting impact.
Who do we support?
We support two fantastic gentlemen in their 50s who are both deafblind and live independently in their own homes in the Pollok area of Glasgow. These gents live full and active lives, and we’re looking for someone who can match their energy and support their routines with enthusiasm and respect. From swimming and long walks to enjoying meals out and exploring new places—including trips abroad for the annual Deafblind International outdoor activities week—there’s never a dull moment. They enjoy structure, companionship, and a bit of adventure, and they need someone who can help maintain their homes, support their health, and most importantly, connect with them through great communication and a genuine interest in who they are.
You’ll work on a 2:1 basis, supporting each gentleman with their day-to-day living. Your role is all about encouraging and empowering them to live happy, meaningful lives and achieve their personal goals—whether that’s at home or out in the wider community. Building strong, trusting relationships will be at the heart of what you do, creating a solid foundation to support with practical tasks such as:
- Support within their own homes with personal care, housework, administering medication, meal preparation, support with finances companionship etc
- Liaise with families and other professionals to provide the best quality care
- Promote independence and individuality according to their Support Plan
- Record daily tasks and maintain accurate records
- Work as part of a team, effectively communicating with the staff team, families, and people supported
*Sometimes the people we support need a male or female person to support them. For this particular role, a male colleague is required. This is an occupational requirement as defined by the Equality Act 2010.
What’s the shift pattern?
This is a 35-hour per week role with a mix of shift types to support the needs and routines of the people we support. Shifts may include:
- Day shifts, for example 10am–4pm, 7.30am – 2.30pm
