Location: 1 Brunswick Road, Hove, BN3 1DG + off site meetings with clients (with some flexibility about remote working if you require this)

Hours: 37.5 hours per week

Salary: £34,592 - top step of NHS Agenda for Change Band 5

Scope of the Role

The Sussex ISVA will provide safe, trauma-informed advocacy tailored specifically to male survivors. They will help them navigate their options and understand their legal rights. While primarily focused on the criminal justice process, the ISVA will collaborate with other agencies to ensure each survivors’ broader practical and emotional needs are met

Main Duties

Manage a caseload of clients who have experienced sexual violence and maintain case files and records using an online case management system

● To provide non therapeutic emotional and practical advocacy support to male survivors of sexual violence over the age of 18 across Sussex

● To provide information, advice, and support clients to engage with a range of support options including the criminal justice process

To help clients understand and access their full legal and other rights and make informed choices about options open to them.

● Assess risk and support needs of clients and make appropriate referrals to health, welfare, benefits, housing, legal and other services as required

Facilitate appropriate safeguarding referrals and keep other agencies informed about important changes in a client’s situation within agreed protocols and policies

Provide in person support for clients at court where required, and support clients in person at meetings with criminal justice agencies including Police and CPS in community locations such as Police station, CPS office

To develop good practice in working with male clients and to share this with the Mankind team to improve our accessibility to, and engagement

To deliver training, provide consultancy on and raise awareness of the issues related to supporting male survivors of sexual violence

● Attend and participate in regular training, staff meetings, supervision and other meetings as necessary within the Mankind team.

● Comply with the policies, procedures and service standards of the Organisation.

● Use Google Workspace, Trello, Miro, COREnet, BrightHR and other digital systems as needed.

● Undertake other reasonable duties which uphold and maintain standards of service delivery.

Person Specification (E = Essential, D = Desirable)

  1. Relevant professional qualification in a social care setting (E)

  2. ISVA qualification (D)

  3. Experience of working with vulnerable and/or traumatised individuals (E)

  4. Knowledge of the issues relating to male victims of sexual violence including the barriers they face in accessing services and how to address these (E)

  5. Knowledge of the criminal justice system (particularly police and court procedures) and other options available to survivors of sexual violence (E)

  6. Experience of carrying out needs and risk assessments, safety and support planning (E)

  7. Experience of working with safeguarding issues and managing risk (E)

  8. Ability to manage own time and workload (E)

  9. Excellent communication skills, both written and orally (E)

  10. Experience of learning to use new digital technologies (E)

  11. Experience of working within clinical or voluntary sector organisations (D)
