Maintenance Supervisor Allen Hall Job Description

The Role

Allen Hall Seminary is a Roman Catholic Seminary where men live and train for the priesthood. We are seeking a Maintenance Supervisor to take responsibility for the day-to-day maintenance and safety of our historic site, ensuring a clean, safe and welcoming environment for seminarians, staff and visitors.

Reporting to the Domestic Bursar, you will provide hands-on maintenance support while supervising the maintenance function, coordinating contractors, and ensuring compliance with health and safety standards across the site.

Key Responsibilities

  • Carry out regular health and safety checks, including fire alarms, emergency lighting and statutory compliance checks

  • Undertake general maintenance and repairs including plumbing, heating, carpentry, painting and decorating

  • Plan, organise and maintain a preventative maintenance schedule and log

  • Respond to maintenance requests from residents and staff

  • Supervise contractors and tradespeople on site

  • Manage maintenance tools, equipment and inventory

  • Carry out external maintenance including gardens, gutters and flat roof areas

  • Move furniture and set up rooms for meetings, exams and events

  • Supervise and support members of the maintenance team

  • Meet weekly with the Domestic Bursar to report on works and priorities

  • Undertake training and additional duties as required

About You

You will be a practical, organised and reliable individual with proven experience in maintenance or facilities management and the ability to lead by example.

Essential:

  • Previous experience in a supervisory or lead maintenance role

  • Strong communication skills, with kindness and respect for staff, clergy and contractors

  • Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail

  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively

  • Problem-solving skills and sound judgement

  • Physically fit with a positive, can-do attitude

  • IT literacy for record keeping and reporting

  • Willingness to work respectfully within a Catholic, faith-based environment

Desirable:

  • NVQ Level 2 or 3 in Plumbing or equivalent qualification

  • Experience working in a faith-based, charitable or non-profit organisation

  • Knowledge of health & safety legislation (e.g. working at height, hot works)
