Role Overview

The Maintenance Operative will ensure that Hooke Park’s buildings and grounds are kept clean, safe,
and well-maintained at all times. The role involves assisting with the maintenance, security, and safety
of the site and working as a member of the Hooke Park Facilities Team to carry out repair and
maintenance tasks both internally and externally across all buildings and grounds.
The role requires practical, hands-on skills, flexibility, and a proactive approach to supporting the
Facilities Team in a dynamic environment.

Main Responsibilities

•  Work collaboratively with the Facilities Team to carry out scheduled maintenance tasks in line with

the maintenance logbook.

•  Undertake a wide range of general maintenance duties using practical skills across buildings and

grounds.
Identify parts, materials, and tools required for maintenance tasks and submit purchase requests
as needed.

•  Perform grounds maintenance tasks, including mowing, hedge cutting, gardening, and general

landscaping.

•  Use hand tools and power tools safely and effectively to maintain and improve buildings and

grounds.

•  Report all maintenance faults and issues promptly to the Site Facilities and Maintenance Manager.
•  Assist with preparation and presentation of grounds and facilities ahead of events.
•  Maintain clean, organised, and safe work areas at all times, following good housekeeping

practices.

•  Assist in carrying out regular vehicle checks on AA vehicles, including oil levels, tyres, and general

condition.

•  Adhere strictly to all Health & Safety policies and procedures, particularly when working in shared

environments with staff and students.

•  Assist with forward planning of maintenance works.

institutional policies.

Person Specification

Experience in a multi-skilled maintenance role

Experience of working in a multi-disciplined team and working to deadlines.

•  A high level of attention to detail.
•
•  Competence in the safe use of hand tools and power tools.
•  Ability to plan and organise daily workload, problem-solve, and work to deadlines.
•  Willingness to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
•  Ability to work safely at all times and follow Health & Safety procedures.
•  Ability to assist with and support forward planning of maintenance works.
•  Ability to work as part of a dynamic team and respond to changing priorities.

Desirable
•  Proven practical experience in one or more of the following: building maintenance, carpentry &

joinery, plumbing, electrical installation, painting & decorating, or landscaping.
•  NVQ Level 2 or equivalent trade or maintenance qualification (e.g. City & Guilds).
•  Basic electrical knowledge with experience carrying out minor electrical works (e.g. replacing

sockets or light fittings).

•  CSCS Card (or willingness to obtain)
IOSH Working Safely or equivalent Health & Safety qualification.
•
•  Knowledge of COSHH and experience working with risk assessments.
•  PASMA (mobile scaffold tower) certification (or willingness to obtain).
•  PUWER awareness, including safe use of machinery (e.g. mowers, hedge cutters) and manual

handling knowledge.
