JOB SUMMARY

To provide an efficient and effective service in installing, maintaining and testing the college’s electrical services and to provide proactive advice and technical support on maintenance regimes for these services in a timely and effective manner.

MAIN DUTIES

Ensure that all College electrical systems of the building are kept in good, safe working order at all times, and are operating as efficiently as possible, dealing with problems as they occur

• Ensuring all electrical works are recorded and fully auditable with relevant electrical completion certificates

• Maintaining an electrical remedial and small works service across all the Colleges campuses

Coordination of electrical maintenance activities for current electrical systems and working with the Facilities Manager on new developments including carbon management considerations for any new or replacement equipment

Provide the full support service for the maintenance and repair of all electrical related tools, equipment and machinery within the Estates Team ensuring their compliance with health and safety requirements

• Engage and contribute to discussions on tackling climate change and reducing consumption across all the Estate

• Ensure all electrical requests on the help desk log are attended to in a timely manner and closed out

• Carry out minor electrical projects as required

• Ensuring a safe systems of work is carried out all times and following H&S legislation

JOB DESCRIPTION

• Carry out routine maintenance to ensure College electrical systems comply with regulations and legislation

• Provide advice and guidance to staff on the use of any technical equipment

• Manage and report on assets within their technical area

• Ensure all industry procedures and policies are followed in line with the laws and guidance for example circuit lock procedures

• To undertake all relevant training including updates on the 18th Edition Wiring Regulations and any subsequent updates / editions thereafter

• Provide services to assist other members of the Estates team as and when required.

• Provide cover for the Facilities Officer duties when required.

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES

Operate as a member of the unit team, offering constructive challenge, specialist advice and the highest professional standards

• Undertake projects as directed by the line manager

• Proactively collaborate with internal and external partners

Keep abreast of current developments relevant to the department

Actively participate in on-going training and development activity and the Personal Development Review process

• Serve on College committees, as required

SCQF level 5 e.g. Standard Grade completion of a recognisedapprenticeship / training scheme or have relevant skills and experiencein an appropriate discipline*
SCQF level 6 e.g. SVQ level 3 in an appropriate area
Experience & Knowledge(Evidence will be sought from the “Application for Employment"” form andby interview questions).
Electrical experience backed up by recognised industry qualifications ordemonstrable experience gained within previous career roles*
Knowledge of Health and safety practices
Knowledge and professional skills associated with latest edition of IEEWiring Regulations
Experience of working in a similar environment.
Multi-disciplined building services experience
Skills(Evidence will be sought as part of the interview process)
Good communication skills both verbally and in writing to communicatewith internal customers and external contractors and consultants and toprovide written electrical reports
Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics*[
Proficient IT Skills
Valid UK driving licence*[]

Duties require access to all areas of the building including plant rooms, roofs and car park areas, also areas where contractors may be working.Some physical duties involved in minor projects. Some exposure tohazards
Flexibility is required as cross campus working will be expected to ensureconsistency across campus.
