Maintenance Assistant / Plumbing Technician - 1 FTE / 35 hours per week (Permanent)
We are looking for a skilled and reliable person, ideally with plumbing experience, to join our Estates team and help keep our College campuses operating safely and efficiently.
This is a hands on role where you will carry out a range of planned and reactive maintenance tasks, using your practical skills to maintain our buildings, equipment and facilities to a high standard ensuring work is completed in line with health and safety procedures and recording work activities and communicating updates using digital systems such as Outlook, Word, Excel and Teams.
As the role cover all three of the College’s campuses (Springburn, East End and Easterhouse) a driving licence is essential.
Key Responsibilities
The role involves carrying out: -
The main activities of the post to be undertaken by the post holder will include:
- Carrying out minor plumbing and repair work as required i.e. unblocking of sinks/wcs, replacing taps/washers/cisterns;
- Carrying out general repairs and building upkeep as required;
- Carrying out minor joinery and repair work as required;
- Carrying out planned and unplanned maintenance and repairs across all College campuses as required;
- Assisting colleagues with activities such as painting, gardening duties and general routine campus maintenance tasks;
- Transporting equipment and materials between College campuses and collection from suppliers;
- Respond in a timely manner to requests raised via the Estates helpdesk.
- Record and share work activities as required using digital systems in line with College procedure.
- Complying with the Data Protection Act, Health & Safety legislation and COSHH;
- Undertaking any other appropriate duties assigned by the Senior Facilities Officers.
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
Skills and Competencies:
- Practical skills to undertake a range of basic maintenance tasks and repair tasks to a good standard;
- Competent in the safe use and basic upkeep of tools and equipment and keep them in good working order.
- Good verbal skills with the ability to follow written instructions and communicate clearly with others;
- Good organisation and time management skills with the ability to manage workload and meet agreed timescales;
- Flexible and adaptable approach supporting the operational requirements across the College campuses;
- Ability to work efficiently and safely at all times in accordance with the College safe ways of working, seeking advice and guidance when required;
- Ability to plan, prioritise and respond effectively to both scheduled and reactive maintenance tasks;
- Work within established systems and processes;
- Reliable and able to complete tasks within agreed deadlines.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while contributing effectively as part of a team;
- The ability to use own initiative to resolve routine maintenance tasks.
- Ability to maintain good working relationships with internal and external stakeholders;
- Ability to use digital systems, including Microsoft Office products (e.g. Outlook, Word, Excel and MS Teams/Forms) to share information and record work activities.
Experience:
- Experience of undertaking general building maintenance or trade-related work (e.g. basic plumbing, joinery, painting and repairs).
- Experience of carrying out planned and unplanned maintenance tasks.
- Experience of working within health and safety guidelines and safe systems of work.
- Experience of working positively as part of a team
