This role works across Blackburn with Darwen and Wyre Council areas. Car user essential. Chorley office occasionally (days negotiable) with write up from home.

Job Overview

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Money and Welfare Benefits Adviser to join our team at Citizens Advice Lancashire West (funded by Macmillan). This role involves providing financial guidance around welfare benefits and referring to other sources of financial help to individuals affected by cancer, ensuring they receive the necessary advice and assistance to manage their financial concerns effectively. Advice will be delivered through a range of channels including face to face, telephone, email and video call in order to meet the needs of the client. An enhanced DBS check will be required.

Duties

  • Offer benefits advice and support to clients, helping them understand available options and resources

  • Mentoring clients through complex financial situations with empathy and professionalism

  • Maintain accurate records of client interactions using Google Chrome

  • Organise appointments and follow-up sessions efficiently, ensuring timely support

  • Communicate clearly and effectively with clients, colleagues, and external organisations

  • Assist clients in accessing additional services or referrals as required

  • Contribute to team meetings by sharing insights and updates on client needs

  • Uphold confidentiality and adhere to data protection regulations at all times

Requirements

  • Travel throughout Blackburn with Darwen and Wyre

  • Essential car user (45 pence per mile and parking reimbursed)

  • Proven experience or interest in mentoring, customer service, or advisory roles

  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively

  • Excellent communication skills in English, both written and verbal

  • Proficiency in chrome and email applications

  • Good IT skills with the ability to adapt to new software or systems swiftly

  • Demonstrated ability to provide empathetic support while maintaining professionalism

  • Strong organisational skills with attention to detail

  • Ability to work collaboratively within a team environment whilst also working independently when required
