Milton Keynes Citizens Advice Bureau Job Description Role: Location: Macmillan Project Caseworker 8B Clarendon Drive Wymbush Milton Keynes MK8 8ED Outreaches: By Agreement Reports to: Head of Operations Band Hours: 4 Full Time - 36 hours per week This job description is a guide to the work that you will initially be required to undertake. It may be altered from time to time to meet changing circumstances. Key Objectives: • To deliver welfare benefits advice to patients and families affected by cancer, in partnership with Macmillan Cancer Support. • To ensure all casework is recorded in a comprehensive and timely manner. • To liaise with Macmillan staff, ensuring that the service is delivered at the highest standard. • To develop knowledge and expertise of welfare benefits and other practical, legal and financial issues facing those who have cancer. Key Responsibilities: • Advising patients and families affected by cancer at Milton Keynes and Stoke Mandeville hospitals. • Delivering advice to the above in a timely manner and via a range of channels including in person, via email, telephone and video call. • Maintain a good relationship with Macmillan staff and patients to ensure that good quality case studies are available for reporting requirements. • Ensure income maximisation for the client through the take-up of appropriate benefits • Provide detailed casework covering the full range of advice options for the client. • Act on behalf of the client where necessary by drafting or writing letters and negotiating with third parties by telephone. • Ensure that all casework conforms to Citizens Advice quality standards • To manage casework and highlight minor potential problems to line manager • To highlight major issues relating to the service to the Head of Service and/or Director. • Manage individual diary and appointments schedule. Reporting and Research and Campaigns: • Provide case studies and statistical information on the number of clients, nature of cases and outcomes and support the management team to provide regular reports to the Macmillan Partnership Manager on a quarterly basis. September 2025 Milton Keynes Citizens Advice Bureau Job Description • Assist with social policy work by identifying suitable cases that demonstrate injustice or unfairness and refer to the Research and Campaigns Lead and Communications Lead. Professional development • Keep up to date with policies and procedures relating to all areas of advice work and undertake appropriate training and CPD. • Complete all necessary practitioner training with Macmillan and take advantage of the support and resources provided by Macmillan to frontline workers who support people with cancer. • Attend relevant internal and external meetings in agreement with your line manager. • Prepare for and attend supervision sessions/staff meetings/management team meetings as appropriate. • Prepare for and attend steering group and patient meetings at each or either hospital, representing Citizens Advice and highlighting the main practical and financial issues facing cancer patients. Other duties and responsibilities • Maintain close liaison with relevant external agencies. • Carry out any other tasks that may be within the scope of the post to ensure the effective delivery and development of the service. • Demonstrate commitment to the aims and policies of the CAB service. • Abide by Health and Safety guidelines and share responsibility for own safety and that of colleagues.
