Location: LSESU, Holborn, Central London
Contract type: 0-hour contract
Job Summary:
As a Sports Facility/Gym Attendant, you will be required to support the day-to-day supervision and operation of the SU Sports Facility or the SU Gym, ensuring they are used safely, efficiently, and that they provide a welcoming environment for all users.
These roles will be the first point of contact for students and members using the facilities, providing excellent customer service while supporting the safe operation of equipment, managing bookings, and responding to enquiries.
These roles also require flexibility, with shifts available during the day, evenings, and weekends. Please apply only if you can provide this level of flexibility in your schedule.
About the job
As a member of the LSESU Sport & Recreation student staff team, you will help support the safe, inclusive, and efficient operation of our sport and fitness facilities.
You will assist in the daily supervision of facilities, ensuring equipment and spaces are set up correctly, maintained, and ready for use. You will act as the first point of contact for facility users, helping manage bookings, answering queries, and ensuring sessions run smoothly.
You will also play an important role in maintaining high standards of health and safety across our facilities. This includes conducting routine checks of equipment and spaces, supporting safe use of the facilities, and acting as the on-site First Aider when required.
By providing a friendly and professional presence within the facilities, you will contribute to creating a positive and inclusive environment for LSE’s diverse community of students and members.
Who are we looking for?
We are looking for friendly, reliable individuals with strong customer service skills who enjoy working in an active and people-focused environment.
Ideally, you will have some experience working in a sport, fitness, or leisure facility and a basic understanding of health and safety in these environments. Experience in a customer-facing role (e.g., responding to enquiries, resolving issues, and supporting users) will be highly beneficial.
You should be a confident communicator who can engage with a diverse range of students and members, while remaining organised and proactive in a busy setting. A positive, approachable attitude and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team are essential.
An interest in sport, fitness, and creating an inclusive and welcoming environment for the LSE community will also be important.
Why apply?
Because you’re excited by the challenge! The exact opposite of corporate, we’re progressive, daring, and creative individuals working to make a difference in unconventional workplaces.
By joining the Sport & Recreation team, you will help support a welcoming and inclusive environment where students can stay active, connect with others, and make the most of their time at LSE.
Benefits and Perks
In return for your passion and experience we offer:
- Free LSE Students’ Union gym membership.
- First Aid at Work training qualification.
- Additional online training (e.g., GDPR and PCI-DSS compliance)
How we recruit
We want to ensure all systems, policies and processes are free from bias or discrimination and are fair and accessible, therefore we ask that all candidates complete our Application Process in two stages:
Part 1: Supporting Statement is all about you telling us about your suitability for the role and will be used to determine if you are shortlisted for interview. Please keep this one page maximum and do not include any personal information, e.g. name or date of birth. Please use the job description and person specification to help write this.
Part 2: (Equal Opportunities Monitoring and Contact Form) is personal information – so we can contact you if you are shortlisted for the interview. It also helps us gather and analyse demographic information about our applicants. This part will only be seen by HR and will not have any impact on shortlisting.
Application forms are formatted to ensure the equality monitoring data is removed before applications are seen by the shortlisting panel. This process allows us to ensure that the shortlisting is done in a fair and consistent manner, and all applicants are given the same opportunity to demonstrate their abilities.
