Logistics Support – Cambridge

The Position

An opportunity has arisen within our Operations and Logistics Department at Oxford Archaeology (Cambridge office) for a Logistics Support role. The successful applicant will, under supervision, carry out duties essential to the effective running of the Cambridge premises and its archaeological sites. You will be working within a core logistics team supporting the archaeological field team based out of the Cambridge office.

This is a full-time position and it is not suitable for home-working. All necessary PPE and on‑the‑job training will be provided.

Essential Requirements

  • A minimum of 5 GCSEs (or equivalent) including English and Maths
  • Good physical capability – this role requires the ability to perform manual handling tasks, with occasional heavy lifting.
  • A full, clean driving licence with a minimum of 12 months’ driving experience.
  • Ability to prioritise workload and ask for guidance when unsure.
  • Good computer skills and proficiency in MS Office (Excel, Word, Outlook).
  • Self-motivation, strong administrative and organisational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to maintain accurate records.
  • Good communication skills for liaising with suppliers and internal teams.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with a flexible approach when working under pressure and to deadlines.
  • Ability to carry out safe work practices in accordance with health and safety legislation, following any risk assessment requirements and related policies.

Desirable Requirements

  • Experience of working in an operational, warehouse, facilities, or logistics‑related environment.

Position duties may include: 

  • Driving duties, including site deliveries, archive deposition and fleet maintenance bookings.
  • Deliver or collecting of tools and materials from suppliers, specialists, sites and offices.
  • Assisting field staff with site set‑up and demobilisation.
  • Maintaining internal and external storage areas.
  • Undertaking routine and ad hoc administrative and support tasks as required.
  • Monitoring the condition of tools and equipment and carrying out basic maintenance or minor repairs as needed, with training provided where required.
  • Ensuring appropriate equipment and materials - including PPE, tools, First Aid supplies, and other essentials - are available for office and site staff.
  • Opening and securing premises when required.
  • Assist in placing orders for consumables and equipment, checking stock and reporting any shortfalls to your functional manager.
