Job Description
Level 2 Immigration and Asylum accredited Immigration Solicitor.
As a result of our expansion needs, we are looking to recruit a solicitor with at least ONE YEAR of experience in asylum/immigration law with Level 2 accreditation to carry out legal aid work.
Key duties:
Responsible to Head of the department and other senior fee earners within the team.
Specific Job Responsibilities
To take on new asylum and immigration matters
Specific duties
• Register asylum clients
• Prepare statements
• Prepare clients for interview in asylum matter
• Draft legal aid extensions
• Draft pre action protocol letters for Judicial review
• Filing post for fee earners when necessary
• Liaising with experts and drafting instructions to experts
• Such other tasks as required in a busy department
• Cover IRC surgeries
• Cover asylum interview for minors
• Appeal preparation
• Complete legal aid application on CCMS
• Take client queries
• Liaise with the Home Office to request updates
• Attend clients to complete NRM questionnaires and VTS applications
• Assist opening legal aid and appeal files
Administration
• Complete time recording
• Maintain files
• Billing, paying costs and closing files
• Follow administrative systems and procedures
Development
• Gain competency in the skills required for the role
• Participate in team meetings
• Attend internal and external courses
• Keep up to date with law and practice
• Assist business development
• Complete the reaccreditation every 3 years
Personal Skills
You will be expected to provide professional, efficient, and friendly services to clients. You would also need to ensure you have a recent CRB check within the last 2 years.
Interpersonal Skills
You will be expected to communicate clearly and appropriately, both orally and in writing with other parties whilst maintaining excellent working relationships. Other duties include being able to negotiate with clients and other professionals to secure objectives.
Academic Skills
You will have a good academic record.
Organisational Skills
You will be expected to assist in the life cycle of a transaction, usually under pressure and to tight deadlines. You must, therefore, be able to prioritise workloads at any given time.
Management Skills
You will have the ability to advise and assist in asylum matters and have a knowledge of the situation in the countries of origin. This requires you to look at a situation from different angles. You must, therefore, be capable of delegating tasks, supervising where appropriate and working on your own initiative. Work Location: In person – Hybrid working will be considered after a successful probationary period has been completed
