JUSTICE is inviting applications for two paid Legal Fellowships to join our team for a six-month period.

These fellowships offer an exceptional opportunity to work at the forefront of legal policy, law reform and human rights, within a small, collaborative organisation committed to strengthening the UK justice system.

Legal Fellows work closely with JUSTICE’s legal and policy staff and will be involved in a range of substantive work, including:

  • Conducting legal and policy research across areas such as criminal, civil, family and administrative justice
  • Assisting with analysis and commentary on draft legislation and policy proposals
  • Supporting third party interventions (where relevant)
  • Working with JUSTICE members and expert stakeholders to explore critical issues of law reform.

The fellowship provides significant exposure to law-making and policy processes, and the opportunity to develop strong research, drafting and analytical skills.

To learn more about the roles, please download the job description available here.

Applications are open to individuals who will have completed one of the following by the start of the fellowship:

  • A UK qualifying law degree
  • A Graduate Diploma in Law (GDL)
  • Part 1 of the Solicitors Qualifying Examination (SQE)
  • The CILEX CPQ Advanced Stage

Applicants should demonstrate a strong interest in challenges facing the justice system, have an understanding of the UK’s constitutional and human rights framework and excellent written and verbal communication skills.

These fellowships are open to all. We particularly welcome applications from Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic candidates, including those from socio-economic less advantaged backgrounds who expect to face additional barriers in pursuing a legal career.

JUSTICE’s fellowship programme is governed by the principles of equal opportunity.

  • Length:Six months (full-time). Flexible arrangements are available, including part-time working (minimum three days per week) over a longer period.
  • Start date:We are aiming for both fellows to start in July/ August 2026, though exact dates will be agreed with successful candidates.
  • Location:JUSTICE works in a hybrid manner. We have an office in central London, however, there is no fixed requirement for in person attendance and we welcome applications from candidates based anywhere in the UK.
