Overview

About the School

The North Wales School of Law is a newly established School within Bangor University, bringing together Law, Criminology, Sociology and Policing. It builds on long-standing strengths across these areas and is developing with a clear focus on growth and collaboration. Law sits at the centre of our provision. Our teaching combines academic rigour with a practical focus, challenging students to engage critically with legal principles and apply them confidently in a range of contexts. We have excellent teaching and learning facilities, including a moot court and a multi-award-winning Law Clinic, and we are developing additional specialist teaching spaces, including a crime scene room. The strength of our teaching and student experience is reflected in our rankings, including 17th in the Guardian University Guide 2026 and 2nd in the UK in the Unifresher 2027 rankings. The School has an active and collaborative research community working across a range of areas including access to justice, policing and AI, language policy, and legal education. This work has international reach and makes an impact beyond academia, as shown by our success in REF 2021. Bangor itself offers a distinctive place to live and work, set between the mountains and the sea in one of the most striking locations in the UK.
