Applications are invited for the above part time permanent position within the School of Health Sciences. The successful candidate will be expected to commence 01/09/2026 or as soon as possible thereafter.

Duties will include the delivery of healthcare education with the prime focus on enhanced, advanced practice, and non-medical prescribing to post-registration health care practitioners at postgraduate level. We offer a diverse range of full and part time postgraduate programmes, which includes blended and distance learning programmes.

Available at Grade 7 or 8 (dependant on experience and qualifications) this post provides an opportunity for experienced candidates to be part of an enthusiastic team to take our programmes forward in line with a range of regulatory approvals and to support student learning. This post is available on our teaching and scholarship career track, and the successful candidate will have opportunities to contribute to teaching and learning across the School’s portfolio.

Candidates should be educated to Masters level in a relevant subject area and should possess current registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Council or the Health and Care Professions Council.

The ability to communicate in Welsh is desirable for this post.

The School of Health Sciences is an interprofessional school which sits within the College of Medicine & Health and provides medical, health, and care education and research at Bangor University. The School works in partnership with health, social and educational care providers through well established links to enable a total clinical and academic experience to be provided for all students.

Purpose of the Job
  • To teach with a focus on enhanced, advanced practice and non-medical prescribing to post-registration health care practitioners at postgraduate level, including supervision of students as they complete formative and summative assessments.
  • To develop ways of teaching to include blended and in person approaches, teaching materials and assessment.
  • To lead and further develop modules and to support delivery.
  • To teach and supervise on appropriate modules throughout programmes at post graduate levels.
  • To provide the highest quality pastoral and academic support to postgraduate students.
  • To undertake administrative duties as designated by the Head of School to engage in School citizenship and personal development.
Main Duties and Responsibilities

Grade 7 role

  • Plan, prepare and deliver lectures and tutorials responding effectively to a variety of student backgrounds, learning styles and class sizes.
  • Motivate students to proactive engagement in learning and provide meaningful and constructive feedback on the quality of their work.
  • Keep abreast of new professional, educational and related social, economic and technological developments appropriate to the role.
  • Supervise postgraduate projects.
  • Be personal tutor to postgraduate students, providing the highest quality, consistent, advice, guidance and support.
  • Contribute to the development of new programmes and work as part of a team to complete tender applications for newly commissioned programmes.
  • Maintain and develop scholarly activities in line with University and College strategies.
  • Publish and share evidence of scholarship related to learning and teaching in books, articles and/or papers in academic journals.
  • Ensure adherence to organisational and professional body (i.e. NMC/HCPC) requirements in all aspects of academic work, and in personal professional development
  • Engage in scholarly, professional and improvement-related activities in partnership with students, local stakeholders and service users.
  • Actively engage in strategic and project-related activities that maximise student engagement, and that mitigate the risks of attrition.

Grade 8 role

  • Lead the development of new modules, and the re-design and improvement of existing modules.
  • Provide course leadership to designated academic programmes, paying particular attention to marketing and recruitment, programming, and quality assurance.
  • Lead the development of new academic programmes that address strategic opportunities.
Other Duties and Responsibilities
  • Participate in the student recruitment and induction procedures of the School (e.g. School and University PG Open Days).
  • Contribute to the promotion and external profile of the School.
  • Contribute to the School's management and participate in the administration of postgraduate programmes (e.g. organisation of exams, contribute to accreditation/QA procedures).
  • Contribute to the marketing of programmes by participating in School and College link activities and other marketing initiatives.
  • Undertake other administrative duties and responsibilities as directed by the Head of School (e.g. membership of School boards and task groups, addressing/supporting undergraduate and postgraduate student experience, contributing to community engagement).
  • Participate in performance review and developmental activities.
  • Comply with the University’s equality policies and statements, Dignity at Work and Study Policy and the University’s Welsh Language Scheme.
  • Maintain a general and legal duty of care in relation to health, safety and wellbeing and take all reasonable steps to ensure a safe and healthy working environment for him/herself and for other members of staff, students and visitors affected by his/her actions or inactions.

Person Specification

Qualifications/Training

Essential:

  • Master’s Degree in a relevant subject area
  • Independent Prescribing Qualification
  • Professional registration (e.g. NMC, HCPC)

To be appointed at Grade 8 (in addition to the above)

  • Professional registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Council or the Health and Care Professions Council.
  • Postgraduate Certificate in Higher Education (PGCertHE) or equivalent OR Recognised by the HEA as a Fellow / Recognised by Advance HE as a Fellow against Descriptor 2 of the UKPSF (or minimum of 3 years substantial teaching experience for conversion to HEA Fellowship within 3 years of appointment).

Desirable:

  • PGCertTHE teaching qualification or equivalent. (Grade 7)
  • PhD, or near to completion (Grade 8)

Experience/Knowledge

Essential:

  • A sound knowledge of contemporary policy and practice in health and care.
  • Evidence of teaching in clinical or academic settings.
  • Capability to develop and manage projects, and to disseminate results through presentation at relevant conferences.

To be appointed at Grade 8 (in addition to the above)

  • A sound knowledge of contemporary policy and practice in enhanced, advanced practice, and non-medical prescribing to post-registration health care practitioners at postgraduate level
  • Experience of teaching at higher education level with evidence of successful student learning outcomes.
  • Evidence of good / innovative pedagogic practice.
  • Experience of module development and delivery in higher education.

Desirable:

  • Experience of module development and delivery in higher education.
  • Experience of supervising undergraduate and postgraduate projects.
  • Capability to publish scholarship in peer-reviewed journals of international standard, conferences, social and other media.
