Newbold College of Higher Education is a vibrant Christian institution with a long-standing
international reputation in Seventh-day Adventist circles as a centre of excellence in biblical,
theological and pastoral education. The College attracts students from many countries and
cultures, and its undergraduate and postgraduate programmes require highly qualified staff who
are able to relate their disciplines to the rich diversity of the College's constituency.

The Department of Theology and Ministry is committed to forming mature, mission-focused, and
well-educated pastors and workers in fulfilment of the mission of the Seventh-day Adventist
Church.

The Role

We are seeking to appoint one full-time Lecturer in Biblical Studies to join the Department of
Theology and Ministry. Applications are invited from women and men with expertise in Biblical
Studies (emphasis in New Testament will be preferred), and with an ability to contribute to at least
one related discipline (Practical Theology and/or Systematic Theology). Applicants should have an
expressed commitment to the high view of the Bible and to the teachings and mission of the
Seventh-day Adventist Church, and should be a Seventh-day Adventist church member in good
and regular standing.

Duties and Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be required to:

•  Teach within a UK/European academic context, delivering modules in Biblical Studies and

contributing to at least one other related discipline

•  Prepare course materials, deliver lectures, hold tutorials, and assess student work including

assignments and examinations

•  Work within the guidelines of the UK Quality Code for Higher Education
•  Work sensitively and inclusively in a multicultural and diverse environment
•  Supervise research at undergraduate and postgraduate levels
•  Serve as a personal tutor to an assigned cohort of tutees
•  Assume academic administrative tasks within the Department as required
•  Serve on College committees and boards as required
•  Maintain an active research and publishing profile through scholarly publications and

conference presentations

•  Utilise a range of teaching methods, media, and technology in the delivery of course

materials, including online classroom management systems

•  Teach in-person, including simultaneous online delivery where required
•  Support student recruitment efforts through presentations and engagement with local

churches and events

•  Participate actively in the wider spiritual and extracurricular life of the College and

contribute to the work of the Seventh-day Adventist Church throughout the Trans-European
Division

•  Promote the mission of the College

Selection Criteria

Essential

•  A completed PhD, DPhil or equivalent in Biblical Studies or a closely related subject field
•  Demonstrated, relevant teaching experience in higher education
•  Ability to utilise different methods, media, and technology in delivering course materials,

and to teach effectively in online and blended learning environments

•  A demonstrated understanding of current developments in the Seventh-day Adventist

Church

•  Relevant experience in pastoral ministry
•  A demonstrated understanding of the contemporary European context
•  Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build positive working

relationships with colleagues, students, and the wider public

•  Ability to mentor students and guide them through their academic journey
•  An expressed commitment to Jesus Christ and the teachings and mission of the Seventh-

day Adventist Church; membership in good and regular standing

Desirable

•  Experience in academic administration within a higher education setting
•  Familiarity with UK higher education quality frameworks
•  Active scholarly publishing record

Salary and Terms

Contract: Full-time, Permanent (38.5 hours per week)

Salary: In accordance with the denominational salary scale

Start date: July 1, 2026 or by mutual agreement
