Learning Support Practitioner (In-Class Support) for Prep School – 12-15 hours across 5 days

Overview of Role

Duchy College Prep School is seeking to appoint a caring, patient and enthusiastic Learning Support Practitioner to join our Learning Support team on a part-time, fixed-term basis. The successful candidate will provide individualised support to a pupil with additional learning needs, helping them to access the curriculum, develop independence and participate fully in school life.

This is a rewarding opportunity to work as part of a dedicated and inclusive Learning Support team, helping a pupil to develop confidence, independence and self-management skills whilst ensuring they are able to access the curriculum and participate fully in school life.

The successful candidate will work closely with teaching staff, the Learning Support team, parents and external professionals. They will provide tailored support that promotes positive engagement with learning and encourages greater independence over time.

This is a fixed-term position for this academic year until 7 July 2027 and may be extended subject to continued funding.

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will:

  • Provide individual support throughout the school day.
  • Support the pupil’s learning, wellbeing and inclusion.
  • Help the pupil develop confidence, independence and self-management skills.
  • Adapt learning materials and activities to meet individual needs.
  • Deliver targeted interventions where appropriate.
  • Support organisation, study skills and independent learning.
  • Use appropriate strategies to encourage engagement and emotional wellbeing.
  • Maintain accurate records of support and progress.
  • Work closely with teaching staff and the Learning Support team.
  • Liaise with parents and external professionals as required.
  • Support teaching staff in the wider classroom as a Teaching Assistant when appropriate.
  • Contribute positively to the inclusive ethos and wider life of the School.
