The Schoolreserves the right to interview andappoint if a suitable candidate isfound before the closing date.OVERALL PURPOSE OF THE POSTTo be an integral member of the wider academic team, as both a teacher andacademic tutor, delivering inspirational learning that motivates young peopleto achieve their very best. To lead the French department, (KS3 & KS4), andpromote the subject within the school to encourage, as far as possible, uptakeat KS4.0.4 FTE (approx.). This is a part-time post based on a normal working week ofMonday - Friday during term time. The School will try to accommodate allteaching into 2.5 or 3 days each week, but cannot guarantee this in anyparticular year. There are no academic lessons on Saturdays, however all staffare expected to undertake weekend activities in line with the details belowand applicants should be aware that there are a number of parent’s meetingsand other formal school events at the weekend.HOURS:SUMMARY OF THE ROLEThis role is responsible for the successful running of the department (KS3 andKS4) with, currently, line-management responsibility of one other member ofteaching staff. The post holder will deliver up-to-date and relevant lessonsusing a range of teaching methods, fully utilising digital technology. Allstudents have iPads and MS Teams is the digital learning platform that theSchool uses. The post holder is required to play a full and active role in thebroader life of the School, pastorally and artistically and events such asweekend activities. All new academic staff, who are non-residential, are required to commit to oneevening duty every two school weeks in one of the boarding houses byarrangement with the Assistant Principal (Pastoral & Welfare).MAIN DUTIESTo be responsible for the successful running of the departmentTo teach Key Stage 3 and 4 in line with the prevailing curriculum offerTo contribute to the highest academic standards at The Royal BalletSchoolSupport the aims and ethos of the School.ROLE PURPOSELead teachers are expected to fulfil the requirements of a teacher andAcademic Tutor at The Royal Ballet School. In addition, they are responsiblefor the overall leadership of their department as follows:Producing an annual Departmental (Curriculum) Review and Handbook inline with the School’s objectivesSelecting appropriate specifications (where relevant) and devising,producing and updating Scheme’s of Work for thesePromoting and monitoring student progressEnsuring appropriate preparation for public (external) and/or internalexaminationsProviding up-to-date information on the subject for the School’s website,and for the current and prospective parentsEnsuring that subject provision is in line with current best practice anddevelopments in the subject.CURRICULUMTEACHINGEnsuring high teaching and learning standards are maintainedEnsuring the quality of departmental reporting and assessment is in linewith School policyUndertake the relevant CPD and peer observation internally and externallyCommunicating with parents as needed; including the handling ofdepartmental/curriculum concernsLead the staff development review with team members as required.MANAGEMENT (of self and others within the team)Managing the curriculum/departmental budgetEnsuring appropriate resources to support delivery of the subjectEnsuring that classroom noticeboards have relevant and current displaysEnsuring all examination records and entries are accurate and timelyMaintaining good general administrative ‘housekeeping’.ADMINISTRATIONPlanning and preparing lessons with due regard for the need fordifferentiationSetting and marking work and recording marks as requiredPromoting, monitoring and encouraging student progressMaintaining good order and discipline in line with the School’s BehaviourPolicyProducing accurate, timely reports as requiredPreparing students for public (external) and internal examinationsAttending staff, academic and progress meetings and assembliesContributing to departmental activities such as displays, trips, curriculumresources, Scheme’s of Work and so on.Academic Teachers are encouraged to take a fulland active part in the life of the Schooldepartmentally, pastorally and artistically.
