The Diocese of Exeter seeks to appoint a dynamic Lay Missional Formation Officer to empower lay disciples for missional transformation by being part of the newly formed Formation Team:

  • Inspiring and equipping missionary disciples and stimulating vocational confidence
  • Discerning and resourcing an increased diversity of missionally focussed lay leadership roles
  • Reframing and equipping current lay leadership for mission with life-long learning

The Diocese of Exeter matches the boundaries of the county of Devon. We are a family of Christians, worshipping God in many different settings and groups. We are led by the Bishop of Exeter and governed by Diocesan Synod. The priorities for this next season in the diocese are to develop:

  • Missional Leadership
  • Missional DNA
  • Vocations
  • Children, young people and families
  • A mixed ecology of church

The focus of this role is ‘Missional DNA’: inspiring, supporting, enabling and training missionary disciples so that our churches may be increasingly outward looking, invitational, actively hospitable and engaged with their wider communities.

The ideal candidate will possess the following attributes:

  • A passion for mission, evangelism and church growth
  • A proven ability to encourage and enable the gifts and skills of others
  • Experience of designing and delivering training courses
  • Wide ranging experience of church leadership in a lay or ordained capacity
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and presentation skills
  • An entrepreneurial and collaborative approach

This role is funded through Church Commissioners’ funding available for up to five years in support of the Pray, Grow, Serve 2035 programme. The appointment is therefore offered on a fixed‑term contract for an initial period of up to three years. Any extension would be subject to the continuation of funding and is not guaranteed.
