About the role

As Laundry Assistant you will you will provide a laundry service to the School and support the Domestic
team. You will support the smooth running of the school’s laundry services, ensuring high standards of
cleanliness, presentation and efficiency for pupils, staff and boarding houses. In addition you will be
expected to the support the Domestic team with general cleaning.

Key responsibilities

•  Carry out daily washing, drying and ironing of school uniforms, sports kits, bedding and other

school laundry.

•  Operate and care for washing, drying and ironing equipment safely and efficiently.
•  Sort, label and organise laundry items to ensure accurate return to pupils, staff or school

departments.

•  Maintain a clean, tidy and safe laundry area, following school health & safety procedures.
•  Monitor laundry supplies (detergents, softeners, labels etc.) and report low stock to the

Domestics Manager.

•  Report machine maintenance issues to the maintenance team, manage Engineer site visits for

maintenance on machines.

•  Assist with the collection and distribution of laundry across the site as required.
•  Handle personal pupil items with care, maintaining confidentiality and sensitivity.
•  Support the wider Domestics team during busy periods, school events or term transitions (e.g.

cleaning).

Additional Duties

•  Conduct yourself with professionalism, tact and diplomacy at all times as a representative of

Kingswood School.

•  Be presentable in appearance and be professional, polite and courteous at all times. Uniform

and safety wear is provided.

•  Observe health and safety procedures and work safely at all times.
•  To comply with all school policies and procedures including reporting any concerns to the
appropriate person in relation to those covering child protection, health, safety, welfare,
security, confidentiality and data protection.

No job description can fully cover all aspects of the role and consequently the responsibilities are likely to
evolve and change over time.

Skills, qualifications and experience

You will have previous experience in laundry, housekeeping, facilities, or a similar setting, along with the
physical capability to handle laundry loads and operate equipment safely. You should be able to manage
your working hours effectively, maintain high standards of safety and cleanliness, and demonstrate
strong interpersonal skills for interacting appropriately within the school community. Attention to detail,
reliability, punctuality, and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team are key, as is a
positive, cooperative attitude toward supporting the wider team.

Prior experience in a school environment, familiarity with commercial laundry equipment, and relevant
qualifications such as a Health and Safety at Work certificate or a first aid certificate would further
strengthen your suitability for the role.

Child protection

It is your responsibility to help promote and safeguard the welfare of children and young persons for
whom you are responsible, or with whom you come into contact, and to adhere to and ensure
compliance with the School’s Child Protection Policy Statement at all times. If, in the course of carrying
out the duties of the post, you become aware of any actual or potential risks to the safety or welfare of
children in the school, you must report any concerns to the School’s Designated Safeguarding Lead.
Protecting children from the risk of radicalisation is part of the School’s safeguarding duties (under the
Prevent Duty).

Competencies

The Kingswood Competency Framework sets out the expected level of performance at a given level –
the ‘competency profile’.

The competency profile is used to support objective setting, appraisal, and continuous professional
development planning.

Terms and Conditions

This is a full-time position, year round position working 37 hours per week, your hours of work will be
6.00am to 1.00pm, Monday to Friday (including a 30-minute unpaid lunch break), and 6.00am to
10.30am on a Saturday morning.  Although there may be some flexibility with hours and days.

The role offers a paid holiday entitlement of 6.6 weeks per year (equivalent to 33 days), inclusive of
public bank holidays. While the School typically closes for a period over Christmas, the specific dates are
determined annually by the Senior Management Team. Any additional non-working days granted during
this closure period are discretionary and do not form part of the contractual holiday entitlement.
