SPAN Arts is seeking a lead artist to design, make, and puppeteer large-scale lanterns/puppets for a community lantern parade in Haverfordwest on Friday 30th October 2026, inspired by the theme of Noson Galan Gaeaf / Samhain — the Welsh and Celtic festivals marking the start of Winter.
Shortlisted proposals will go to a public vote, with the chosen artist commissioned to collaborate with performers, musicians, filmmakers, and lighting designers on the event.
The commission covers design, making, puppeteering, materials, and transport — fee: £2,000.
Your pitch should include:
A 50-word public vote pitch, a concept description, visual concepts (sketches, photos, or mood board), and a short bio. You may also suggest a community handheld lantern design and/or a light-based finale performance (both separate commissions).
Key dates:
Deadline: 16 May · Shortlist: w/c 25 May · Public vote: 1–22 June · Commission awarded: w/c 29 June · Creation phase: July–October
To apply: email your written proposal and supporting images to info@span-arts.org.uk. Video pitches also welcome.
