Landscape Architect
Overview
This is a great opportunity for an experienced landscape architect to join the council’s Natural Environment Team and be involved in the creation of quality, inspiring places for everyone in the borough.
Basingstoke and Deane has a wealth of parks and open spaces, surrounded by beautiful Hampshire villages and the North Wessex Downs National Landscape. We place great value on the natural environment which makes it a great place to live and work.
This position would best suit someone who wants to make a difference and is motivated by having a diverse and varied workload. It is a hybrid role with 40% of the time spent working from home.
You’ll work on the design and delivery of improvements to neighbourhoods, parks and open spaces that genuinely enhance quality of life. From concept through to completion, you’ll run every stage of the project lifecycle — holding community engagements, preparing and coordinating tenders, and overseeing works on site to ensure our landscapes are designed and built to last. You’ll also play an important role in shaping the borough’s future growth by acting as a landscape consultee on planning applications, ensuring new development supports our policies and aspirations.
You’ll collaborate closely within a multidisciplinary team including ecologists, green spaces officers and tree specialists. This supportive environment offers space to share ideas, broaden your expertise and bring the latest thinking in landscape design and place‑making into your everyday work.
We are looking for an enthusiastic and self-motivated individual with a good knowledge and understanding of current landscape issues. You will have a proven track record of working as a landscape architect with
- A degree or postgraduate diploma in landscape architecture
- Strong communication and project management skills
- A genuine passion for creating landscapes that people love
Experience in community consultation or landscape planning is an advantage, but not essential. We’re committed to helping you grow your career, with ongoing support and the potential for mentoring.
For an informal discussion about the post, please contact Catherine Daly, Principal Landscape Architect, on 01256 845529 or by email at catherine.daly@basingstoke.gov.uk.
