Salary £12.60 per hour, 10 Hours a week 9.30 to 11.30am, Monday to Friday
Our community café is a welcoming and safe space for all, including some people with a range of additional support needs. We offer freshly prepared, nutritious meals at low cost, served with dignity and respect. As a Kitchen Team Member, you’ll play a key role in helping us deliver this service, supporting with food preparation, maintaining a clean and safe environment, and ensuring every customer feels valued and cared for.
Job Summary
- Prepare, cook and serve food and drinks
- Support the smooth and efficient running of the kitchen and café at all times
- Deliver excellent customer service to all café users
- Maintain high standards of cleanliness and hygiene across the café
- Contribute to the safeguarding and welfare of volunteers and customers
- Promote the support available from the wider Mission team
Main Responsibilities
Food Service
- Be familiar with the café’s daily operations and routines
- Meal and buffet preparation and cooking
- Serve customers in a friendly and welcoming manner
- Ensure that all customers are treated equally and are appropriately catered for
- Report any complaints raised by customers to the Centre Manager
- Participate in ordering, purchasing, receiving, and checking food supplies
- Support the correct storage and rotation of stock
- Operate the till and handle cash, following financial procedures
Hygiene and Health & Safety
- Maintain a high standard of personal hygiene and promote cleanliness among others using the kitchen.
- Complete Basic Food Hygiene training and participate in refresher courses as required.
- Follow systems for cleaning and maintaining a hygienic café environment in line with the HACCP Plan.
- Operate all kitchen equipment in a safe manner and in accordance with manufacturer instructions
- Follow all health and safety procedures in the building, including fire safety, accident reporting, and keeping work areas safe for staff and visitors
- Immediately report any faulty equipment or hygiene concerns to the Centre Manager
- Maintain accurate records to comply with Health and Safety, COSHH and HACCP regulations
- Participate in scheduled deep cleans of the kitchen and café areas
Other Duties
- Manage routine issues in the café following established policies and procedures
- Provide day-to-day support to volunteers, contributing to a collaborative and efficient team environment
- Participate in regular team and staff meetings and training
- To work flexibly and undertake any duties to support the Premises Team, cleaning rooms and facilities and preparing rooms for all users
- Undertake any other additional duties, as identified by the Centre Manager, that are appropriate to your role and capability and meet the needs of Huddersfield Mission
Qualifications
- Proven experience in food preparation and kitchen operations
- Strong culinary skills with a focus on food safety practices
- Background in catering or restaurant environments
- Ability to efficiently prepare meals and manage kitchen tasks
- Familiarity with serving techniques and customer service in a dining setting
- Commitment to maintaining high standards of cleanliness and organisation in the kitchen
TERMS AND CONDITIONS:
- The post holder must be aware of and comply with all Mission policies including Health and Safety, Safeguarding, and Diversity & Equal Opportunities
- The working hours 10 hours per week. The normal hours of work 9.30am to 11.30am Monday to Friday, However, the post-holder may be required to work flexibly, by prior arrangement, to meet the needs of the organisation
- This post is paid £12.60 per hour (living wage)
- Paid annual leave: 25 days and public holidays (both pro-rata)
- The appointment is subject to the satisfactory completion of a probationary period of three months
