Junior Apprenticeship Lecturer in Construction 0.6

The Board of Directors of Coleg Sir Gar and Coleg Ceredigion are committed to appointing the very      best staff who achieve excellence in their work. Working to the values and behaviours that underpin     the strategic plan and business of the institution, the College seeks staff that display creativity and     innovation, whilst driving their own performance, and the performance of others.

The Junior Apprenticeship Programme is a part of 14–16 provision delivered within a compulsory education framework. Learners remain on the roll of their home school and attend College as part of a statutory programme. As such, this role differs from standard post-16 FE delivery and carries enhanced responsibilities in relation to safeguarding, behaviour, attendance and engagement.

Learners will typically attend in small cohorts of up to fifteen and may include young people who are disengaged from mainstream schooling or who require a highly structured, consistent and supportive learning environment. The postholder will therefore be expected to adopt trauma-informed, restorative and inclusive approaches to teaching and behaviour management.

The Lecturer for Junior Apprenticeships in Construction will deliver high-quality vocational teaching and assessment, acting as a positive role model for young learners and supporting their progression into further education, apprenticeships or employment. The role sits within a wider Junior Apprenticeship team, working closely with a Junior Apprenticeship Coach who provides day-to-day in-class pastoral support, break-time supervision and work placement organisation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver teaching and assessment for a designated E3/L1 vocational qualification suitable for 14-16 learners in line with awarding body and College requirements
  • Plan and deliver structured, engaging lessons that promote attendance, participation and positive behaviour
  • Prepare high-quality teaching, learning and assessment materials appropriate to learners
  • Undertake assessment, recording and tracking of learner progress using College systems
  • Contribute to internal verification and quality assurance processes
  • Ensure that all teaching spaces and practical activities comply with health and safety and safeguarding requirements
  • Work closely with the Junior Apprenticeship Coach in order to actively embed employability skills, professional behaviours and workplace expectations across teaching and assessment, ensuring clear alignment with learners’ work experience placements
  • Establish consistent and proactive communication with schools, parents and carers to support recruitment activity and to jointly monitor learner progress, behaviour and attendance, ensuring early intervention where concerns are identified
  • Organise and carry out educational visits and trips, in full compliance with the College’s Educational Visits Policy, that enrich the curriculum, extend learning beyond the classroom
  • Support learners to plan clear progression routes into apprenticeships, Jobs Growth Wales+ opportunities or further study, working collaboratively with curriculum teams, employers and progression services
