JOB DESCRIPTION Job Title Job Coach Department Quality Job Reference Job Coach Reports to Supported Internship Coordinator Location Salary Flexibility Launceston £25,000 per annum pro rata 28 hours over 4 days, term time (41 weeks) Contractual status Part-Time, 2 years Fixed-Term Role summary The postholder will support young people with an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) to succeed in real workplace settings as part of a Supported Internship programme. The purpose of the role is to enable interns to develop job skills, confidence and independence, so they can progress towards sustained paid employment. Support is gradually reduced as independence increases. The postholder will bridge the gap between education and employment, focusing on skill-building and independence. Support provided is time-limited and outcome-focused Key responsibilities These key responsibilities are neither a comprehensive nor exhaustive list, and the duties may be varied from time to time by your line manager or executive director. In-work support for interns • Provide on-site support to interns in their workplace placement • Break down job tasks into manageable steps and model tasks where needed • Support development of: 1 job-specific skills o o workplace behaviours o communication and social interaction o timekeeping and routines 2. Promoting independence and employability • Encourage interns to problem-solve and self- advocate • Support interns to build confidence and resilience in the workplace • Avoid dependency by promoting natural workplace support from colleagues • Celebrate progress and milestones towards independence 3. Employer engagement and support • Translate SEND needs into practical workplace strategies • Build employer confidence in inclusive employment practices 4. Monitoring progress and outcomes • Monitor intern progress against agreed employability and independence goals • Record progress accurately and contribute to reviews and reports • Share feedback with the Supported Internship Coordinator and wider team • Adapt support strategies based on evidence and progress 5. Safeguarding, wellbeing and professionalism • Maintain a high standard of safeguarding awareness in all settings • Follow organisational safeguarding and health & safety procedures 2 Measure of success Continued professional development • Escalate concerns promptly and appropriately • Support intern wellbeing while maintaining professional boundaries Success in this role will be measured by the effective delivery of key priorities, objectives, and targets set by the organisation. This includes achieving established performance metrics, demonstrating consistent improvement in processes, and contributing to the overall mission of Step into Learning. Additionally, the successful candidate will be expected to promote positive relationships with learners and stakeholders, enhance the quality-of-service delivery, and actively participate in initiatives that drive organisational growth and development. The postholder will ensure that Step into Learning safeguarding and welfare policies and procedures are known, understood, and used appropriately. Will keep detailed, accurate, secure written records of concerns and referrals (including electronic documents) and refer all concerns to the safeguarding team.
