Grade A - £55,172 (National) or £61,028 (London - for London office based or home-based workers within the boundary of the M25) – There is also an additional homeworking allowance of £600 per annum for those working from home. Please note for part time roles – this will be pro rata.

As the IR(ME)R Modality Lead Radiotherapy Inspector, you’ll help keep people safe by making sure medical radiation services meet important safety laws and standards.
You’ll work as part of a small, expert national team focused on protecting patients and improving safety in services that use medical radiation. Your work will directly support safer care and better outcomes for people across England.
In the last year, as an IR(ME)R Modality Lead Inspector in National Operations, you might have:
- Led inspections and regulation:Planning and carrying out inspections of medical radiation services, making sure they meet IR(ME)R regulations and taking action where needed.
- Managed risk and investigations: Reviewed and investigated reported incidents, escalating serious risks and supporting safe outcomes for people using services.
- Supported others:Led and supported inspectors in your area, ensuring consistent, high-quality work and building strong relationships with key partners.
As the Radiotherapy Modality Lead, you will play a critical role in shaping how CQC regulates and influences the safe use of ionising radiation across England under the Ionising Radiation (Medical Exposure) Regulations (IR(ME)R).
You will be responsible for inspecting and regulating medical radiation services for compliance with all relevant IR(ME)R 2017 regulations in accordance with a proportionate and risk-based methodology. You will be required to develop work programmes and deploy resources accordingly within relevant modality.
The role is national and will require travel throughout England.
We will be looking for specific skills, knowledge and experience in your application form:
- A degree in Therapeutic Radiography or equivalent.
- Current HCPC registration in specialist modality.
- Knowledge of IR(ME)R 2017.
- A minimum of 5 years’ experience in an appropriate clinical setting.
- Experience of using data, evidence, and professional judgement to make well-reasoned decisions within a risk-based regulatory framework.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and oral and the ability to tailor information depending upon audience’s needs.
- Stakeholder engagement skills and ability to build relationships with people at all levels of seniority.
- Experience of understanding and adhering to the relevant legislations.
