PURPOSE   

Amnesty International is seeking a highly skilled and motivated research consultant to work as part of our team of researchers conducting investigations into violations of international human rights law and international humanitarian law committed in Iran. We are seeking a skilled researcher with strong drafting skills and experience able to independently carry out remote research involving interviews with primary sources and collection and analysis of other evidence, as well as country knowledge. The research consultant will work closely with a team of other researchers, legal advisors, communications experts and digital investigators in the Evidence Lab in the Crisis Response Programme.The period of this consultancy is likely to run from April to October 2026. 

OBJECTIVES AND DELIVERABLES   

  • Undertaking human rights investigations that are rigorous, timely, strategic, impartial, and multi-disciplinary, working closely with Amnesty International's Iran team, Evidence Lab and other relevant colleagues.
  • Identifying and interviewing survivors and other witnesses of violations of international human rights and humanitarian law in a respectful and ethical manner; as well conducting interviews with secondary sources including human rights defenders, medical doctors,
    lawyers and other specialists.
  • Collecting other relevant information and evidence such as documents, photos or videos,
    official statements.

 

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS   

  • Experience undertaking human rights documentation and investigation or comparable reporting on Iran; and experience in remote research methodologies.
  • Experience engaging appropriately and ethically with a variety of individuals, including survivors of human rights violations and others who may have recently experienced trauma, employing sensitivity and discretion.
  • Fluency in English and Persian.
