We are seeking a dynamic and experienced senior manager to join our Engagement Department as Insights Navigator. The department brings together five areas: Digital Engagement, Communication Strategy, External Relations, Insights and Health & Husbandry. Insights serves as a critical knowledge hub, ensuring that strategic actions are informed by rigorous research, scientific evidence and investigative findings, while Health & Husbandry, which also falls under the remit of this role, ensures the best possible standards of animal care by applying scientific expertise to optimise health, welfare, and management practices across all our facilities.
Grounded in science and FOUR PAWS expertise, the Engagement Department aims to inform public opinion and create compelling stories that build trust across audiences, shape understanding, and champion best practices for animals. As Insights Navigator, your role is pivotal in bringing scientific evidence and rigour to our campaigns, projects and programmes. Guided by this evidence, together with a collaborative spirit and a deep passion for animal welfare, we strengthen our organisation’s voice to create a world in which humans treat animals with respect, empathy and understanding.
Your contribution will be
- Leading, developing and/or overseeing a range of scientific and other animal welfare related research to support strategic actions and inform projects and campaigns
- Ensuring all animal welfare and any related social science research activity conducted or commissioned by FOUR PAWS is rigorous, scientifically robust, strategically aligned, and delivers value for money
- Ensuring monitoring, analysis and sharing of intelligence about emerging trends and developments in animal welfare with a focus on strategic priorities
- Leading the Insights Unit and managing and developing the Research Team. Overseeing the operations of Health and Husbandry Team, ensuring the provision of high standards of veterinary care and welfare for wild animals in FOUR PAWS’ sanctuaries and across other animal welfare initiatives. Deputising for the Engagement Director.
- Overseeing investigations designed to expose and document animal cruelty, in support of strategic projects and campaigns
- Supporting the design and delivery of impactful, evidence-based campaigns by acting as a strategic sparring partner, embedding robust research and insights into campaign development and stakeholder engagement activities.
- Driving FOUR PAWS’ leadership in animal welfare by championing innovation, advancing evidence-based research, and leveraging emerging technologies to maximise impact.
Your profile ideally illustrates
- Substantial relevant scientific research experience, covering wild animals, farmed animals and/or companion animals
- Advanced veterinary or related academic qualifications
- Experience of managing investigations into animal cruelty, exposure to human behaviour change projects and/or understanding of opinion polling best practice
- Excellent communicator with strong English language skills and an ability to translate complex concepts into plain English
- Experienced line manager with demonstrable team building and cross departmental collaboration skills
- Passion for animal welfare and FOUR PAWS' vision and mission
