Independent Mental Health Advocate (secure)

We are looking for a part time Independent Mental Health Advocate (22.5 hours per week).
The project is based in Leicester (East Midlands) within a forensic medium secure hospital.

Key Responsibilities

  • Experience of working within Advocacy, and understanding of the issues involved in providing independent Advocacy.
  • To provide Independent Mental Health Advocacy and generic advocacy to qualifying patients including people detained under specific sections of the Mental Health Act ’83.
  • To work with individual patients to provide information, support and representation in order to assist them in any decision making process affecting their care, treatment, legal status or other aspects of their daily lives.
  • To raise awareness of Advocacy, Independent Mental Health Advocacy and the service to other professionals, individuals and other agencies.
  • To work with groups of patients on the wards, to assist them in developing and expressing a collective point of view.
  • The successful candidate should hold National Advocacy Qualification level 3 or be willing to work towards this within the first year of practice.
  • To maintain detailed cases notes and accurate statistical information
