UWC Dilijan – one of the 18 United World Colleges – is an intentionally diverse international boarding school in Armenia. It first opened in August 2014 and now has more than 220 students (16 to 18 years old) from 80 countries, studying for the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma.

We are driven by the belief that education is 'a force to unite people, nations and cultures for peace and a sustainable future' (UWC Mission Statement). Beyond academics, we are a caring community dedicated to the 'whole human', nurturing the growth of every individual. This holistic approach is anchored in the UWC educational principles and values, ensuring our students don't just learn but truly thrive.

UWC Dilijan is also part of a wider network of organisations that work to transform Armenia, such as the IDeA Foundation, the Aurora Prize for Awakening Humanity, the Foundation for Armenian Science and Technology. As an educator here, you are invited to step into this wider world, whether it’s through unique partnerships, participating in high-level humanitarian and technology fora or bringing high-calibre speakers into your classroom.

At UWCD, you aren't just a teacher but also a mentor, an outdoor enthusiast and a cornerstone of our residential life. In addition, the opportunities to contribute to Dilijan and the wider UWC movement are limitless. We invite you to explore our website and social media to witness the extraordinary stories written by our community.

UWC Dilijan is looking for an experienced English Teacher, reporting to the Head of the Faculty of English.

At UWC Dilijan, you won’t just teach a language. You will provide our students from 80 nations with the tools to build bridges, foster cross-cultural understanding and advocate for peace. If you are an experienced educator with a heart for mission-driven learning, we invite you to join our community.

Responsibilities

At UWC Dilijan, your role extends far beyond the traditional classroom. We invite you to engage with our community through the following areas:

  • Design and deliver a challenging academic curriculum that uses our student body’s 80 nationalities as a primary asset for learning and cross-cultural understanding.
  • Serve as a dedicated mentor and support our residential life programme, guiding students through their personal, moral and social development in a diverse boarding environment.
  • Actively contribute to our Outdoor Education and CAS (Creativity, Activity, Service) programmes, helping students find their voices and passions through experiential learning.
  • Thrive within a collaborative team of international educators, sharing expertise to support the 'whole human' development of every student.
  • Act as an ambassador for our core values, turning education into a living force for peace and a sustainable future through both individual initiative and institutional partnerships.

Skills and preferred experience

We recognise that every educator follows a unique path, bringing their own mix of strengths and experiences to our community. While the following points outline our ideal profile, we value the diverse paths that lead teachers to our door.

  • At least three years of teaching experience and a passion for inspiring young people; experience with the IB Diploma Programme is a distinct advantage in our academic environment.
  • A proven track record of successfully engaging with children and adolescents, whether in a traditional school setting or through other meaningful youth-centred work.
  • Undergraduate studies in your teaching field. Advanced degrees in education, counselling or related areas are highly valued as they enrich our holistic approach to student development.
  • Commitment to student safety. You bring previous safeguarding training to the role. If not, you are ready to immerse yourself in comprehensive training to uphold our rigorous standards of care.
  • Full professional proficiency in English and a keen interest in international and intercultural environments. Proficiency in additional languages and previous intercultural living experience are highly desirable assets in our diverse community.
  • Previous contributions to the wider educational landscape as an IB examiner, workshop leader or CIS visiting team member. We value those who bring these external perspectives to our campus.
  • Appetite for the unique rewards of living and working in a residential school, where learning never truly stops.

What we offer

  • A unique opportunity to mentor a cohort of truly diverse and socially motivated young people from 80 different nations.
  • Access to premium professional development opportunities.
  • A renewable two-year contract that offers long-term stability within an international educational network.
  • A highly competitive salary, fixed in USD and paid in Armenian Dram, providing financial security in a dynamic economy.
  • Generous relocation and annual travel allowances to ensure you and your family are supported as you join our community and maintain your global connections.
  • Premium medical and travel insurance, ensuring world-class care.
  • Rent-free accommodation (on or off-campus), including all utilities and full board in our canteen.
  • Full access to the school’s state-of-the-art campus, including an indoor pool, high-performance gym, theatre and inspiring art and design studios.
  • A dedicated social and wellness programme for staff and their families, ranging from aqua fitness and yoga to cultural excursions, fostering a sense of belonging.
  • Armenia has much to offer, whether you are interested in nature, history or culture. Located in the Caucasus, the region is developing and there are myriad opportunities to explore it.

Safeguarding and inclusivity

UWC Dilijan is committed to safeguarding our students and visitors. An application for a position implies explicit consent to undergo thorough background checks and screening. Successful candidates will be subject to background checks, including reference requests from previous employers, as well as a security check.
