UWC Costa Rica is looking for an experienced and committed English Teacher, reporting to the Academic Director.

UWC Costa Rica seeks a qualified IB English B and Language Support Teacher for the 2026–2027 academic year. The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering high-quality instruction aligned with the International Baccalaureate (IB) curriculum while supporting students’ intellectual, social, and ethical development.

The teacher will contribute actively to the broader life of the school, including co-curricular activities, experiential education, and the residential life programme. This role requires a collaborative educator who values diversity, sustainability, and global citizenship, and who is committed to creating inclusive and engaging learning environments for an international student body

Responsibilities

  • Teach IB English B and provide language support to students in accordance with IB standards.
  • Design and deliver engaging, inquiry-based lessons that foster critical thinking and communication skills.
  • Support students’ academic and personal development within a diverse international classroom.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to integrate experiential learning and sustainability into the curriculum.
  • Participate in co-curricular programmes, including Creativity, Activity and Service (CAS) activities.
  • Contribute to the residential life programme and support students in a boarding school environment.
  • Engage in weekend duties and supervision responsibilities when required.
  • Promote inclusive learning communities that encourage intercultural understanding and collaboration.
  • Work collaboratively with faculty, leadership, and students to support the holistic educational experience of the institution.

Skills and preferred experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in English, Education, or a related field with specialisation in English.
  • A recognised teaching qualification for teaching English as a foreign language.
  • Minimum of two years of teaching experience; experience in international schools is preferred.
  • Experience with the International Baccalaureate (IB) curriculum is an advantage.
  • Fluency in spoken and written English.
  • Competency in Spanish or willingness to learn.
  • Experience with experiential learning approaches.
  • Ability to work effectively in multicultural environments.
  • Strong organisational and time management skills.
  • Collaborative mindset and flexibility in teaching approaches.
  • Interest in promoting sustainability and environmental awareness within education.
  • Experience teaching Theory of Knowledge (TOK) is desirable
