Citizens Advice Cornwall are looking to recruit an exceptional and highly organised individual with proven administration & HR experience to support our Human Resources department. This role will be central to the running of the organisation’s HR function and provide direct support and assistance to the HR Manager.
You will act as the first point of contact for HR-related queries from our volunteers, employees and external partners. Some other main duties will include maintaining personnel records, managing HR records (e.g., employment records, DBS checks, internal HR procedures), preparing HR documents for approval and updating internal databases.
This role will also additionally provide support to the Senior Management Team (SMT) with confidential matters and activities.
- Proven experience as an HR Administrator, or equivalent skills or experience.
- Confident computer literacy, including Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint etc.), Email Systems (Outlook), and experience in using HRM systems to maintain accurate records and run reports.
- Experience operating at, or progressing towards, HR Officer level, demonstrating the ability to provide HR advice, coordinate HR processes, and support managers confidently.
- Experience of producing accurate and complex documentation and correspondence (preferably HR/employment/contractual-based experience)
- Ability to interpret and apply HR policies and procedures, providing clear, practical advice to support consistent decision‑making across the organisation.
- Experience supporting people‑related matters, such as informal employee relations issues, wellbeing concerns, or early‑stage conduct/performance matters, escalating appropriately when needed.
- Experience of prioritising workload, time management and dealing with conflicting priorities
- Strong interpersonal skills, with proven ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing with internal and external contacts at all levels.
- Proven ability to handle sensitive and confidential issues/information appropriately, including undertaking wellbeing‑focused discussions with staff and signposting to relevant support
- Ability to undertake high-quality, accurate notes/minutes at meetings and maintain comprehensive records.
- Proven ability to create a positive working environment in which equality and diversity are well managed, dignity at work is upheld and staff are empowered and motivated to do their best.
- Commitment to reflective performance and continuing professional development
- CIPD Level 3 qualification (or working towards it) in Human Resources Management and/or equivalent experience, demonstrating a commitment to developing HR knowledge and professional practice.
- Commitment to and passion for the work of Citizens Advice Cornwall
- An ability to help build a collaborative ‘one-team’ culture whereby staff and volunteers, as far as possible, contribute their skills, experience, and time flexibly across our service to meet the needs of our clients and colleagues. Therefore, a flexible approach to working and planning would be desirable.
In accordance with our local policy the successful candidate will be screened by the DBS. However, a criminal record will not necessarily be a bar to your being able to take up the job
