Bloxham School is seeking to appoint an exceptional, caring and inspirational Housemaster to lead Egerton, one of our thriving boarding houses. As the figurehead of the House, the successful candidate will provide outstanding pastoral leadership while overseeing the academic, personal and social development of every student in their care. Working closely with tutors, matrons, parents and the wider school community, the Housemaster will foster a culture of kindness, respect, responsibility and aspiration, ensuring that Egerton continues to provide an exceptional boarding experience.

  • Bloxham School is a thriving school with a warm and friendly staff community.
  • Our school day starts at 8.30am and finishes at 6pm Monday to Friday.
  • Academic lessons end at 3.30pm after which our staff contribute to broader curricular activities, academic drop-ins and pastoral meetings.
  • Saturday lessons are from 8.30am -12.00pm.
  • The pastoral service we offer at Bloxham School matters hugely to us and therefore as a Housemaster you will be expected to take a share of overnight supervision during the week and weekends and contribute to the weekend duty rota.

About the Role

The Housemaster has overall responsibility for the pastoral, academic and administrative leadership of Egerton, ensuring that students are supported to achieve their full potential within a safe, caring and inclusive boarding environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Providing outstanding pastoral leadership and acting in loco parentis for students within the House.
  • Leading and managing the Tutor Team, House Matron and student leadership team.
  • Promoting the highest standards of student welfare, safeguarding and pastoral care.
  • Building strong, positive relationships with parents and maintaining regular communication regarding student progress and wellbeing.
  • Supporting students’ academic achievement through close collaboration with tutors, teachers and Heads of Department.
  • Leading House meetings, assemblies, events and competitions, fostering a strong sense of identity and community.
  • Managing the day-to-day operation and administration of the House, including budgets, records and compliance.
  • Supporting student induction and helping new students settle quickly into boarding life.
    Participating fully in the wider life of the School, including recruitment events, public occasions, co-curricular activities and weekend duties.
  • Teaching within an academic department, delivering high-quality lessons and contributing fully to departmental life.

About You

We are seeking an experienced teacher and inspirational pastoral leader who is passionate about boarding education and committed to creating an outstanding student experience.

  Essential Qualifications and Experience:

  • Educated to Degree Level.
  • Experience teaching to GCSE and A Level.
  • Knowledge of safeguarding, child protection, and boarding standards.
  • High level of IT proficiency.
  • Strong leadership and team management skills.
  • Full driving licence (with willingness to drive a minibus).

The post holder’s responsibility will include promoting and safeguarding the welfare of children and young persons for whom s/he is responsible, or with whom s/ he comes into contact.
