Rowans Hospice is a charity that provides free care and support to adults and their families living in the Portsmouth and South-East Hampshire region who have a life-limiting illness. Established in 1994, our income is generated by ongoing support of the local community, donations, legacies, fundraising and through our retail shops.

The Housekeeper will work within the Housekeeping Team, which is managed by the Head Housekeeper, who is responsible to the Facilities Manager. The role is based at Rowans Hospice, Purbrook.

The Housekeeper role is vital to the smooth running of the Hospice, playing a key role in maintaining high standards of cleanliness and infection control throughout all areas. This includes clinical areas, offices, visitor spaces, and public facilities.

Hours of work 

The Housekeeper role is part time, 20 hours per week, on a two week rolling rota

WEEK 1 Wed ,Thurs & Fri 08:00 – 13:00 Sat & Sun 08:00 – 13:00
WEEK 2 Wed, Thurs & Fri 08:00 – 13:00 Equivalent to 20 hrs a week

Please note that the working pattern will include working bank holidays

  • Carry out cleaning duties to a high standard, in line with Hospice procedures and infection control policies, demonstrating trust in our shared ways of working and honestyin maintaining consistent standards
  • Ensure all clinical and public areas are clean, hygienic, and welcoming, showing respectfor the dignity and comfort of patients, visitors, staff, and volunteers
  • Use cleaning equipment safely and responsibly, reporting any faults or maintenance issues promptly and make a positive impacton the quality of care
  • Follow colour-coding systems and cleaning schedules accurately, reflecting our commitment to valuethrough efficient, reliable, and safe practice
  • Dispose of waste appropriately, including clinical and confidential waste, following Hospice protocols, upholding trustandhonestyin how sensitive materials are handled
  • Replenish consumables such as soap, paper towels, toilet rolls, and hand gel
