Filmhouse are looking for a friendly, film-loving Hospitality Assistant to join their Cafebar team.

This is a full-time role, 37.5 hours per week, with a variety of shift patterns between 9am and Midnight, Monday to Sunday.

The Hospitality Assistant’s role is to ensure a consistently excellent customer experience for guests visiting the Filmhouse Bar. Delivering bar and table service, processing orders, preparing a wide range of beverages, liaising with kitchen staff, and maintaining bar cleanliness and presentability, Hospitality Assistants will make sure that our guests have a great experience when visiting Filmhouse, whether they are sitting down for a meal, buying a coffee, or purchasing tickets and concessions on their way to see a film.

Required to multitask in a fast-paced setting whilst ensuring standards of service remain high, Hospitality Assistants will help Filmhouse Bar operations run smoothly while assisting the Food & Beverage Manager and Hospitality Supervisors with a variety of tasks in addition to those listed above, including maintaining and following safety procedures, dealing with waste disposal, and assisting with opening and closing the bar.

Vital to this work is a focus on a great customer experience and an understanding of what makes Filmhouse unique. As an independent cinema and charity with a cultural mission to bring the best in independent film to Edinburgh, the Filmhouse Bar team plays a crucial role in delivering not just our food and drink offer but the cinema offer as well. Selling tickets to films and events as well as concessions to take into screens, Filmhouse Bar staff are expected to possess excellent product knowledge across both areas.

Purpose of Role: Supporting the Food & Beverage Manager and Hospitality Supervisors to run food and drink service and other operational areas of the Filmhouse Bar, in order to deliver great customer service to Filmhouse customers.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide exceptional customer service through friendly and professional interaction with customers.
  • Accurately take food and beverage orders and ensure their delivery in a timely, professional and friendly manner.
  • Prepare and serve drinks and snacks while ensuring quality, consistency, and proper presentation.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organisation in both the bar and dining areas.
  • Maintain cleanliness and hygiene standards are upheld in all guest and staff areas including restrooms, following the instructions of the Food & Beverage Manager and Hospitality Supervisors.
  • Follow all health and safety regulations as communicated by the Food & Beverage Manager and Hospitality Supervisors.
  • Handle customer queries, requests, and complaints professionally and promptly.
  • Process payments accurately using our point-of-sale (POS) system.
  • Continuously develop product knowledge to provide informed recommendations to guests (encompassing both food & beverage and film/event offers).
  • Assist with restocking, inventory checks, and closing/opening duties as required by the Food & Beverage Manager and Hospitality Supervisors.
  • Contribute towards effective communication between the bar and kitchen teams to support a good workflow between the two areas.
  • Assist end-of-day procedures, e.g. closing down service areas accurately, as directed by managers and supervisors.
  • Verify customer identification in compliance with Scottish licensing regulations.
  • Follow organisational standards and policies whilst representing Filmhouse with utmost professionalism.
  • Contribute towards a productive, happy, and supportive work culture by following managerial instructions and having an open, collegiate approach at work.
  • Promote and support diversity, inclusion and environmental sustainability across all activities.
  • Support the Food & Beverage Manager and Hospitality Supervisors with any other tasks as may reasonably be required, as well as the Cinema Manager and Duty Managers where appropriate.
