Wales Golf are seeking to recruit a volunteer for an honorary Captain position, which will support the Wales Golf High-Performance department throughout 2026 and 2027.

The role of the Team Captain is to lead and guide Wales Golf’s internationally selected Men’s team at the European Team Championships and Home International Matches. The work of the Team Captain will form an integral part of the High-Performance Support Team which includes:

  • Pathway and High-Performance Director
  • High-Performance National Coaches
  • Pathway and High-Performance Officer
  • Teams Co-Ordinator
  • High-Performance Players

The honorary Captain positions will be for the following events:

  • Men’s Home International Matches 2026 & 2027
  • Men’s European Championships 2026 & 2027

Key responsibilities:

  • Captain the Men’s Home International team.
  • Captain the Men’s European team
  • Be familiar with the policies and procedures relating to your role, which will be provided by Wales Golf.
  • Communicate with the Pathway and High-Performance Director regarding the event, teams and support role.
  • Work in close consultation with Men’s lead coach to support team selection and order at tournaments.
  • Liaise with the Teams Co-ordinator regarding the travel and tournament logistics.
  • Maintain a list of team expenses when required.
  • Attend relevant Selection meetings to assist in team selection.

Experience and Qualities:

Essential

  • Have a knowledge and understanding of performance golf
  • Have good communication skills
  • Have strong leadership and motivational skills
  • Have a knowledge and understanding of tactical play in golf
  • Be available to fulfil the time commitments as required by the position
  • Ability to demonstrate confidentiality and fairness at all times

Desirable

  • I.T literate with access to a computer and an e-mail address
  • Have a knowledge and understanding of current competition structures across Great Britain and Ireland
  • Experience – played golf at interprovincial/senior cup level; captained interprovincial/ international team
  • Time – Understanding of the time required for the role and giving the role the priority it requires

Support & Benefits

Training and guidance from the High-Performance Team as well as volunteer DBS check will be provided for the successful applicant as well as all clothing (golf and formal) required to successfully and effectively carry out the duties required. Although this is a voluntary role all expenses incurred in fulfilling the job requirements will be covered by Wales Golf.

Safeguarding requirements:

Due to the nature of these roles, the persons undertaking the Team Captain roles will be
required to:

  • Read and be familiar with Wales Golf’s safeguarding policy
  • Successfully complete a volunteer DBS check
  • Attend Safeguarding course relevant to your role
