Celebrating Shakespeare is at the heart of everything we do.
The Shakespeare Birthplace Trust is looking for a Heritage Trainee – Traditional Building Skills to join our Conservation Building team. The role is project-funded through support from the National Lottery Heritage Fund (NLHF) and the Michael Bishop Foundation.
As Heritage Trainee you will develop practical skills and foundational knowledge in the conservation, repair and maintenance of historic buildings under supervision from our Conservation Building team.
To be successful in this role, you will be interested in heritage, traditional building crafts, or construction, and willing to learn new skills and follow instruction. You will be able to work safely and use tools responsibly, and be confident working in public-facing environments and outdoors.
It would be beneficial to have experience in practical or construction-based activities, an interest in traditional materials such as lime mortar and timber repairs, and already have experience in heritage, visitor attraction, or charity settings. However, our Conservation Building team will train and develop you during your time with the Trust.
This is an exciting time to join the Trust as initially you will contribute directly to a major specialist conservation project at Anne Hathaway’s Cottage, carrying out high-quality traditional building repairs, fabric conservation and heritage-sensitive maintenance to support the long-term care of the site. Working to the highest standards of craftsmanship appropriate to a nationally significant Grade I listed building.
The closing date for applications is Sunday 7 June 2026 with interviews taking place on Thursday 18 June 2026 in-person in Stratford-upon-Avon.
