Hours: 20hrs per week Monday - Friday 9:15am – 13:15pm
Contract: Permanent
Salary: £NMW – £25,740.00pro rata (depending on qualifications and experience)
Activate is currently seeking dedicated health care assistant / client support to join our team at the JJys site. The Healthcare Assistant/client support will provide high-quality personal care and support to clients with learning difficulties, communication needs and/or disabilities. The successful candidate will understand and respond to each client's individual personal care needs while promoting their dignity, independence and wellbeing, ensuring they remain safe at all times.
The role includes providing personal care, assisting with feeding, including PEG/pump feeding where required, and administering medication in accordance with agreed procedures and training. You will also support clients with moving and handling, including the safe use of wheelchairs, hoists and walking frames.
In addition, you will prepare and cook simple lunches for clients, ensuring all meals are prepared safely and in accordance with individual dietary requirements, allergies and nutritional needs. You will also help maintain a clean, safe and hygienic kitchen environment.
The successful candidate will be compassionate, reliable and able to work effectively as part of a wider team. A commitment to delivering high standards of care, maintaining client dignity and promoting safeguarding at all times is essential.
Please note, Activate operates both an Education and a Social Care section. The Support Worker role is within our Social Care team and is not a term-time contract.

Main purpose of this job
To provide high-quality personal care and support to clients with learning difficulties, communication needs and/or disabilities, ensuring their individual care needs are met in a safe, respectful and dignified manner. The role also includes supporting clients with nutrition, mobility, medication administration and the preparation of simple meals, promoting independence and wellbeing wherever possible.
Summary of duties and responsibilities:
Provide personal care to clients in accordance with their individual care plans, ensuring privacy, dignity and respect at all times.
Support clients with eating and drinking, including PEG/pump feeding where appropriate and following all relevant training and procedures.
• Administer medication in line with organisational policies, procedures and appropriate training.
Assist clients with moving and handling, including the safe use of wheelchairs, hoists, walking frames and other mobility equipment.
Prepare and cook simple, nutritious lunches, taking account of individual dietary requirements, allergies and nutritional needs.
Maintain a clean, safe and hygienic kitchen and food preparation area in accordance with food hygiene standards.
Monitor clients' wellbeing and report any concerns, changes in condition or safeguarding issues to the appropriate person.
Work collaboratively with colleagues and other professionals to ensure clients receive high-quality, person-centred care.
Comply with all health and safety, infection prevention and control, safeguarding, moving and handling, medication and food hygiene procedures.
• Undertake any relevant training necessary to carry out the role effectively.
Person Specification
Essential
Experience of providing personal care and support.
• Understanding of person-centred care and maintaining dignity and respect.
Ability to assist with moving and handling, following appropriate training and safe working practices.
Willingness to undertake training in PEG/pump feeding and medication administration.
• Ability to prepare simple meals safely and maintain good food hygiene practices.
Good communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work as part of a team and use initiative when appropriate.
Reliable, caring, compassionate and committed to supporting clients to achieve the best possible outcomes.
• Understanding of confidentiality, safeguarding and health and safety responsibilities.
Desirable
• NVQ Level 2 or 3 in Health and Social Care (or equivalent).
Experience supporting people with learning disabilities and/or additional communication needs.
• Training in medication administration.
• Training in PEG/pump feeding.
• Moving and Handling certification.
• Food Hygiene Certificate.
