Job Title Head of Prep TLC Responsible to Deputy Head (Academic) Role Overview The primary purpose of this position is to assist the Deputy Head (Academic) with the day to day smooth running of the Teaching and Learning Centre (TLC) for Years 3-8. within the wider context of Clayesmore School. Responsibilities and Duties ● Being a champion and advocate for all pupils, or groups of pupils, at Clayesmore who have specific learning difficulties. ● Chair weekly departmental meetings for the Prep School. ● To assist the Admissions Department with admissions for Y3-8, as required. ● Helping with the supervision and regular updating of IEPs and ensuring their implementation across the ● school. Identifying pupils with individual needs; responding to pupil, staff and parental queries and requests for help when required; monitoring all pupils receiving support within the TLC, and those for whom regular support may have been discontinued. ● Preparing documentation for EHCP applications, EHCP Annual Reviews and applications for Military Funding for students in Y3-8. ● Ensure that exam access arrangements are applied successfully and appropriately. ● Communicating with staff across the school over pupils’ individual needs as required ● Having the knowledge to advise staff on best practice and methodology connected with teaching and learning and the behavioural management of any pupil ● Communicating with current parents or guardians over their child’s education at Clayesmore, and answering and following-up queries by email and telephone in a timely and efficient manner ● To help to ensure that the Clayesmore TLC maintains its outstanding status and reputation in all ways ● To teach approximately 18 lessons in the TLC each week, and undertake other troubleshooting sessions as required. ● To undertake other reasonable tasks as required by the Head to ensure the effective running of the TLC. ● To deputise for the SENCO when required. Person Specification ● Embody the values of Clayesmore, demonstrating loyalty to the school and its ethos ● Qualified teacher status ● Educated to degree standard ● Qualification in SpLD to at least Level 5 ● Current Assessment Practising Certificate ● Recent participation in SpLD training ● Experience of teaching 7-13 year old pupils with SpLD in 1:1 and group situations ● A wide understanding of pupils’ educational development ● Knowledge of effective teaching and learning strategies across the ability range for all pupils, but especially SpLD pupils ● Experience of assessing/testing pupils to determine SpLD issues ● Experience of assessing/testing pupils to establish access arrangements for external examinations ● Experience of regular communication in writing, by phone and verbally with parents ● Experience of working closely with mainstream subject staff and heads of academic departments, with regard to work and progress of SpLD pupils ● Knowledge of SENA and EHCP funding and associated paperwork ● Knowledge and experience of CReSTeD ● Knowledge of legal issues and disability ● Knowledge of recent research into all types of learning difficulties ● Previous middle management experience may be an advantage Date prepared: Prepared by: September 2025 Deputy Head (Academic) and Head of Learning Support Clayesmore School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.
