About the Kingswood Foundation

Founded in 1748 by John Wesley, Kingswood is rooted in a belief in the transforming power of
education and the importance of each individual. Wesley’s words “Do all the good you can, by all the
means you can, in all the ways you can, in all the places you can, at all the times you can, to all the
people you can, as long as ever you can.” continue to shape the School’s ethos.

Kingswood is a friendly and inclusive community where pupils are encouraged to develop
confidence, curiosity and compassion. Academic excellence sits alongside a strong commitment to
character, service and all-round personal growth. Pupils are supported to discover and develop their
talents while contributing positively to the lives of others.

Originally established in Bristol to educate the children of local mining families, the School moved to
Lansdown in Bath in 1852. The Foundation now comprises the Prep School (nine months to 11 years)
and the Senior School (11 to 18 years), offering a broad and holistic education at every stage.

Kingswood Prep School

Kingswood Prep School provides a vibrant and nurturing environment in which every child is known
and valued. Inspirational teaching, wide participation and a belief in enjoyment as well as excellence
underpin daily life.

The Prep School benefits from excellent facilities, including dedicated spaces for Music, Art and
STEAM, alongside extensive outdoor grounds that support Sport and Outdoor Education. The Garden
Nursery welcomes children from nine months and provides year-round provision within the same
caring and well-resourced setting.

While academic learning is central, breadth of opportunity is a defining strength. All pupils participate
in Sport, Music and Drama within the curriculum and through an extensive co-curricular programme.
Sport is a important feature of the school week, with broad participation encouraged alongside a
competitive fixture programme and entry into IAPS national competitions. Music and Drama are
equally strong, with numerous performance opportunities, ensembles and productions across the
year. Residential visits and trips further enrich the pupils’ experience and foster independence and
resilience.
