About this job

UNISON improves the working lives of people delivering public services through individual and collective representation, campaigning and negotiation.

We are looking for a highly motivated and organised Head of Operational (corporate) Services to join our team and ensure the region’s core functions are delivered efficiently and effectively – one of UNISON’s core objectives.

If you have a proven track record in running a corporate service or membership function and want to work for an organisation that changes lives, we want to hear from you!

About the job

Under the direction of the Regional Secretary, you will be responsible for the day to day running of the region’s operational functions including:

· Finance

· Administration

· HR systems and processes

· Branch Support

· Conference Administration

· Membership Systems.

For these functions, you will liaise with the union’s central teams to resolve operational difficulties, make improvements and deliver planned changes to systems and processes. You will manage the staff that lead these regional functions and provide the Regional Management Team with operational information and insights.

The post is based in our office within the UNISON Centre in Central London.

About you

You will have experience of running and developing one or more of these functions as well as a proven track record in managing staff and delivering change to systems and processes. You should have excellent problem-solving abilities as well as good planning and well-developed communication skills.

You do not have to have a Trade Union background to apply but you do need to have an understanding of the aims and values of the trade union movement and be flexible in your approach. Experience of working in a membership organisation would be an advantage, as would showing awareness and understanding of UNISON’s policies and objectives.

The Greater London Region prides itself on its diverse membership. We aim to represent the entire public sector in our multicultural city. We support and encourage applications from underrepresented groups and those from Black, Asian and non-white backgrounds.
