Primarily afternoons 1:00pm to 5:30pm with some additional hours to be flexible. 5 afternoons per week to include lunchtime. Exact hours can be flexible, but will be needed on games afternoons, certainly Tuesday - Friday. The world of netball within schools is currently a fast-moving environment and this is a very exciting time to build and shape the future of the game here at Woodbridge. They will be expected to manage and oversee all aspects of the netball programme, allocating resources to achieve the maximum impact. The individual will have a strong coaching background and experience of playing / coaching at a high level. They will also be required to teach hockey or football and cricket, athletics or tennis in the summer term. Job Description Job Title: Head of Netball Department: Coaching Hours: Part-time Accountable to: Head of Sports, Health & Fitness Job Purpose: Teachers are expected to provide excellent standards of teaching, learning and pastoral support, whilst also contributing to the extra-curricular life of the school. Key Responsibilities (Head of Netball): • Along with the Head of Sport, Health and Fitness, lead and develop the Netball provision in line with the strategic aims and objectives of the school. • Plan, implement and manage the coaching programme to include both curricular and co-curricular opportunities. • Plan and arrange a stimulating fixture programme to engage and challenge students appropriately, taking advantage of friendly, county, regional and national competitions. • With support from the Sports Administrator, arrange all aspects of netball fixtures, including appropriate staff cover, transport, match teas etc. • Attend and represent the School at fixtures, ensuring a positive image is maintained. • Manage Netball coaching staff to support delivery of the programme. • Support development and management of relationships with key netballing partners, including attending any league and county meetings etc. • Support and deliver aspects of the sports performance programme to ensure the best possible provision (to include 1:1s, small group sessions, seminars). • Plan and organise trips and tours in line with the sports department strategy. • Play a key role in active recruitment and retention of students. • Alongside the Head of Sport, Health and Fitness, explore and develop opportunities and strategies for international recruitment. • Manage the netball budget and purchase the relevant sporting equipment when needed. • Support the School’s enrichment programme as required. • Be expected to work as part of the wider Sports Department and willing to assist with a variety of sports alongside your colleagues. • Write weekly/bi-weekly match reports for the School’s weekly online newsletter and work closely with Marketing Department on the Social Media Front. • Write student netball reports in line with the School’s academic schedule and grade students during the year. Key Responsibilities: • Encourage students to appreciate the value of their subject and provide them with appropriate knowledge, understanding and skills. • Prepare and teach challenging and stimulating lessons, with due regard to students individual needs across the ability range; • Maximise students learning and teaching experiences in your subject area, setting high expectations; • Engage in informal lesson observation and participate in the exchange of good practice; • Keep current with aspects of netball, such as rule changes, and disseminate to the netball staff. • Work within the departmental framework as a member of the team, contributing to meetings and departmental activities; • Have clear rules and routines for behaviour in lessons and take responsibility for promoting good and courteous behaviour both in lessons and around the school, in accordance with the School’s behaviour policy. Key Responsibilities (Pastoral): • Create and maintain strong, supportive relationships with staff, parents/carers, students and the community; • Contribute to the formal and informal pastoral, spiritual, moral, and social and health- related education of students through the pastoral system and beyond; • Keep up to date with safeguarding knowledge and legislation in relation to working with and protecting students; and, • Contribute to the wider, extra-curricular life of students and of the School. Outstanding record as a coach Experience in netball performance environments Skills Ability to teach hockey or football and cricket, athletics or tennis in the summer term. Excellent interpersonal and organisational skills. Energetic and enthusiastic with the ability to maintain and create strong, supportive relationships with staff, parents, carers and students. Excellent listening skills and respect for all students People management experience. Strong communication and interpersonal skills Innovative and forward thinking.
