We are excited to present a rare opportunity for a dynamic, forward-thinking and energetic Head of Media Studies to lead our thriving Media department at TWGSB.
The aim of the subject within TWGSB is to be able to critically consider the media that saturates modern life, both old and new.
The Media department is consistently very successful at both GCSE and A Level. The courses are delivered in two Apple Macintosh-equipped computer suites, and students have access to equipment and digital video-editing facilities such as the Adobe Creative Cloud suite (including Premiere Pro and Photoshop). We also have a dedicated technician who supports the students through the practical coursework. The Media department currently offers Eduqas GCSE and A Level Media Studies courses.
The department runs a number of co-curricular learning opportunities, including the Film Makers Club, a filming trip, courses at the BFI and attendance at a national Media conference for A Level students, as well as an Oscars Award ceremony celebrating the work of Year 11–13 students.
The Head of Department is responsible for all teaching and support of colleagues in the Media Studies Department. They will take lead responsibility for providing leadership and management within their subject area, in order to secure:
-
High-quality teaching
-
Effective use of resources
-
Improved standards of learning and achievement for all.
The ideal candidate will be an inspiring teacher who is ready to step up and provide professional leadership and management in Media to secure high-quality teaching, effective use of resources and improved standards of learning and achievement for all students. They will have a proven track record in academic success and curriculum innovation. The ability to teach across all key stages would be desirable.
Joining TWGSB means becoming part of an ambitious, supportive and collaborative school environment. We are proud to offer:
-
Highly motivated, capable and engaged students
-
A supportive leadership team, including the dedicated guidance of an Assistant Headteacher
-
Excellent facilities, equipment and resources to support high-quality curriculum delivery
-
A welcoming and inclusive staff culture, where collaboration and well-being matter
-
Opportunities for ongoing professional development and career progression
-
A chance to help shape – and expand – a department with an already strong reputation.
You will join a talented, multi-disciplinary team committed to providing a personalised and holistic approach to education and student well-being.
The larger campus for TWGSB is in Tunbridge Wells. However, you will be required to work at other campuses connected to TWGSB and be expected to oversee extra-curricular activities at both campuses.
Tunbridge Wells Grammar School for Boys is one of the largest boy’s grammar schools in the country. In late 2021, we benefited from a multi-million pound investment, which resulted in a brand-new sports building at our Tunbridge Wells campus and the opening of our Sevenoaks campus.
We can offer you the opportunity to work with highly able young people in a supportive, well-equipped and forward-thinking school. We offer a friendly and inclusive working environment and the chance to be part of a fantastic multidisciplinary team, who work hard and support each other to deliver personalised, bespoke education and care.
Staff benefit from a positive working environment, with strong support for professional development and specialist teaching rooms. We aim for high standards and the pursuit of academic excellence, helping every student to reach their full potential through the development of skills, concepts and knowledge, within the framework of a caring community. Relationships between staff and students are based on trust, mutual respect and a determination to succeed.
