Role purpose:

We are seeking an experienced and strategic Head of Marketing & Communications to lead and evolve the marketing function at ScreenSkills. This is a senior leadership role responsible for shaping and delivering an integrated marketing and communications strategy that drives engagement, strengthens our brand and reputation, and supports funding and organisational growth.

The role will lead the Marketing, PR and Communications functions, ensuring a coordinated and consistent approach to audience engagement, brand positioning, media relations and stakeholder communications.

The role will also play a key part in shaping and communicating ScreenSkills’ organisational narrative, ensuring our work, impact and priorities are clearly understood across industry, funders and stakeholders.

Reporting to the Director of Marketing and CEO, you will provide clear direction, prioritisation and leadership to ensure Marketing & Communications operates proactively, strategically and with measurable impact. The role will also be responsible for ensuring activity aligns with organisational priorities and delivers measurable outcomes.

Key responsibilities:

Strategic Leadership

  • Develop and deliver a comprehensive marketing and communications strategyaligned to organisational priorities and long-term objectives.
  • Contribute to wider organisational strategy as a key member of the leadership team.
  • Identify new audience engagement, partnership and revenue opportunities.

Marketing

  • Lead the organisation’s marketing function, ensuring activity supports audience engagement, programme delivery, stakeholder engagement and funding priorities.
  • Oversee integrated marketing campaigns that effectively promote ScreenSkills’ programmes, initiatives and impact.
  • Ensure marketing activity is insight-led, measurable and aligned with organisational goals.
  • Oversee all marketing channels including digital, social media, content marketing, direct marketing, campaigns and print.

PR & Communications

  • Provide leadership for thePR and Communications function, which reports into this role.
  • Oversee external communications, media relations and industry engagement to strengthen ScreenSkills’ visibility and reputation.
  • Ensure consistent and effective communication with key stakeholders including industry partners, funders and the wider sector.

Brand & Reputation

  • Lead the development of ScreenSkills’ organisational narrative and key messaging,ensuring a clear and compelling articulation of our purpose, impact and strategic priorities.
  • Ensure consistent messaging, positioning and visual identity across all marketing and communications channels.
  • Strengthen brand awareness and reputation across industry, funders and stakeholders.

Marketing Delivery

  • Ensure the successful planning and delivery of integrated marketing campaigns and communications activity.
  • Commission and manage external agencies and specialist partners where required.
  • Ensure campaigns are insight-led, measurable and outcome-focused.

Performance & Insight

  • Establish clear KPIs and performance frameworks across marketing and communications activity.
  • Analyse campaign performance, audience data and market trends to generate actionable insight and inform future strategy.

Leadership & Team Development

  • Lead, motivate and develop a high-performing Marketing, PR and Communications team.
  • Set clear priorities, manage workloads and allocate resources effectively.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration and continuous improvement.

Financial & Governance

  • Own and manage the annual marketing and communications budget.
  • Ensure effective return on investment across all activity.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant marketing, data protection and copyright legislation.

Essential skills and experiences:

To succeed in this role, you will combine strategic thinking with strong commercial awareness and inspiring leadership. You will be comfortable operating at both strategic and operational levels, with the ability to influence senior stakeholders and deliver measurable results.

You will demonstrate:

Excellent knowledge of all aspects of marketing, including digital marketing, content marketing, copywriting, print marketing, multi-media campaigns, social media marketing, direct marketing, brand and reputation management.

  • Experience overseeing PR, media relations and external communications.
  • Excellent leadership qualities and experience leading departments, teams and third-party suppliers.
  • Proven project management success.
  • The ability to analyse and review marketing metrics and trends to identify opportunities and threats.
  • Understanding of marketing tools such as marketing automation,Customer Relationship management, and Content Management Systems, for example HubSpot, Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint and Word.
  • Excellent presentation and stakeholder communication skills.
  • Strong organisational and prioritisation skills.
  • Excellent analytical and data reasoning abilities.
  • Strong strategic thinking capabilities.
  • The ability to make quick but well-considered decisions.
