Head of Finance Job Information Pack Supporters January 2026 1 Liverpool’s Royal Court This is an exciting opportunity to join the Executive team at Liverpool’s Royal Court at a critical time in in the theatre’s evolution. Liverpool’s Royal Court became an Arts Council National Portfolio Organisation in 2018 and as a consequence, has established itself as the largest producing theatre in Liverpool City Region. The theatre has a loyal and large audience base (over 180,000 per year), which it serves by producing high quality, drama, comedy and musical shows, 12 months of the year in the 1,150 seat main auditorium. We also have a vibrant 150 seat studio space which operates simultaneously with main house shows focussing on new writing and talent development and providing a much needed city centre space for emerging talent. We run a youth theatre for 11-17s, a Community Choir and amateur drama group all of which are free with no waiting lists or auditions as part of our Community Engagement programme. The Head of Finance will join the organisation at a time when we continue to develop capital projects that will have significant effect on the theatre ecology of the region including The Everton Mint, which will repurpose our existing workshop and production facilities in Everton to create a new resource for theatre, TV and film production across the region. To entertain, educate and uplift people by creating an environment that makes theatre accessible to all and strengthens the cultural fabric of Liverpool. 2 Liverpool’s Royal Court Head of Finance Job Information Pack January 2026 About the Role Job Title: Head of Finance Responsible to: Chief Executive Directly Responsible for: Management Accountant, Finance team [2], HR Administrator, Head of Operations, Head of Marketing Purpose of the Job: Liverpool’s Royal Court (LRC) is seeking an experienced and strategic Head of Finance to join its Executive Leadership Team at anexciting time for the organisation. Reporting to the Chief Executive, this role provides financial and operational leadership across the four companies that make up LRC. Working closely with the Executive team, Heads of Department and the Board of Trustees, you will ensure robust financial management, strong governance and effective systems that support the organisation’s artistic and commercial ambitions. You will lead on financial strategy, budgeting, forecasting and reporting, oversee cash flow and statutory compliance, and provide clear, timely insight to support decision-making. The role also has oversight of HR, risk, insurance and organisational policies, as well as contributing to business planning for growth and capital projects. We are looking for a senior finance professional with strong leadership skills, excellent financial and analytical capability, and experience of operating at executive level in a complex organisation. Experience in the arts, charity or not-for-profit sector would be an advantage, but is not essential. Excellent communication skills with all levels and disciplines of individuals. • Comfortable in a fast-paced, dynamic working environment. • Good writing and presentation skills. • A working knowledge of the arts and entertainment sector would be desirable but not necessary if able to demonstrate a real interest in the sector. • An understanding of the financial aspects of hospitality would be preferred. 4 Liverpool’s Royal Court Head of Finance Job Information Pack January 2026Responsibilities • Developing and implementing a financial strategy that has practical steps and objectives to ensure the overall strategic aim of LRC is achieved. • Overseeing the month end, year end and Companies House reporting and ensuring completed on a timely basis and in a robust manner. • Reviewing monthly financial information from HODs to ensure anomalies are understood and improvements implemented where required. • Producing succinct and clear reporting (financial, HR, operational) for discussion with the Executive team, HODs and the Board of Trustees and Sub-committees. • Reviewing financial performance in real time and making recommendations for future activities and processes. • Managing LRC cash flows in a cyclical business with regular production of cash forecasts. • • Ensuring the correct VAT treatment and signing off all VAT returns. Leading and producing the annual budgeting process in collaboration with HODs and Senior Executive team. • Contributing to the business and financial planning for LRC’s growth projects such as The Everton Mint, New Courtyard and any other capital building project that may arise. • Overseeing the HR function and ensuring risks are mitigated and regulations are adhered to. • Developing longer term budgets to assist with fundraising, particularly the Arts Council NPO applications. • Leading and motivating all direct reports, agreeing objectives and targets to achieve high effectiveness and employee satisfaction. • Maintaining all the LRC insurance policies and managing the relationship with insurers and any claims if required. • Managing relationship with Equity and ensuring all contracts of employment are current and fit the operation needs of LRC. • Managing external relationships such as banks, lawyers, outsourced payroll, consultants etc. • • • • • Ensuring LRC’s policies are regularly reviewed and remain relevant and appropriate. Playing a leading role in the HODs meeting and Finance & Operational meetings. Playing an active role within the Senior Executive team.
